So, it's my very first semester in 4-years university and I'm already considering transferring to a different 4years university that have a dental medicine school department in it.

Why would I do that?

Because I think if the student attended a university undergrad and then applied to it's Dental school, that student will have a higher chance of being accepted to his/her university dental school.

Do I have a source that proves my point? No, I don't. That's why I called it random thought.

I'm interested to see pre-dent form input on this. Do you agree/disagree with me? Do you even think its true that dental schools prefer undergrads that attended their university over other applicants?

The part is bold IS NOT TRUE for the most part but as a whole i would say that if u do undergrad at a school who has a dental school u dont really have much of an advantage cuz adcoms dont care.

Indian Univ, UCLA, UF DONT GIVE preference to kids who did their undergrad there, they do give IN STATE kids preference though.

Where u went to undergrad is ultimately not important. what matters most is:

1. SCIENCE GPA
2. DAT SCORES
3. OVERALL GPA

Just focus on getting/maintaining a high science GPA mixed with good ECs

^ +1

Stay put, just go somewhere where you can get a good GPA without getting too much debt.

This.

Not only did my undergrad not have a pre-dental club I was the only pre-dental student in the whole school and I got accepted. I know several people who went to undergrad at the school I am at now for dental school and they didn't get accepted here. Definitely not a reason to transfer.

that sounds kind of stupid.

Oh good gosh...You're in Massachusetts! The state with only private dental schools...You're actually thinking about going to a private school for undergrad?! That's beyond general stupidity...It's financial recklessness...

Do you think society's telling you go to undergrad with the nicest name? Well, then you're eating media garbage and are being a tool, or a nail for someone else's hammer. Most of the people at undergrad are financially facking stupid too...

There is no necessity in going to universities that have a dental school, as well. Dental schools don't give out that much research or other opportunities to undergrads anyway. Go to a 4 year that is decent and will give you the highest GPA and won't break the bank.

not entirely true...I go to a private catholic undergrad and haven't paid anything out of pocket since freshman year. my boyfriend who goes to public state school, a CUNY to be exact, pays more than I do to attend school...and he doesn't live on a nice campus and have free tutors.

Because everyone gets full rides and grants, right? Are you kidding me!? Pretty obvious to go to a school that gives full rides, private or not. Point is to not pay up the arse for useless undergrad bio degree.

Why even post what you posted except to tell everyone you're going to undergrad for free?

Are YOU serious? I did NOT get a full ride or grant, especially because I went to school our of state. The word grant doesn't even exist to me. You were insinuating that OP is stupid for wanting to go to a private school. to quote:

THAT's what I was responding to. Because it's not true. I worked my 'arse' off freshman year to get into the honors program and get university scholarships at my private school and I'm sure is OP wanted to go to one of those private schools, they probably could too. You don't know OP or what they are capable of. They asked a completely valid question because I had the same question in high school.

Stop generalizing every school and every person. It's not a good look.

I'm doing my undergrad studies at a university that does not have a dental program. The in state dental School is University of Oklahoma, and I attend UCO. Over the years I have heard from several sources that OU admissions committees look favorably on UCO students because the university is known to have a rigorous biology program. I been told all things being equal between two applicants except if the science gpa's differ. The uco student will be accepted even if their gpa is up to a tenth of a point less than the other applicant. That is just one example that it is unnecessary to chose your undergraduate school just because it has a dental school. However do your research about the reputation of your current university's course quality. If it has a reputation of being easy consider changing or do extracurricular activities that show that you are a highly qualified deserving applicant.

Worry about your gen chem class before transferring, without grades/DAT/EC's, you won't get in regardless of the school you attend.

You need to calm yourself dude. I've seen you around lately raging at every pre-dent thread.
I love how you just assumed I'm paying for my school tuition and continued trash talking me as if you knew me.

What if I told you that I have a full scholarship that covers every charged cent throughout my undergrad studies?

How about you just to answer the question next time and stick with it? No one need to witness your episodes.

No my current school has good reputation. I just thought that they would prefer their undergrads.

I know .. Freakin gen chem is kicking my butt.

I asked this question because I'm desperate to get into dental school. Even if transferring to university with dental school in it will give me 1% more chance of being accepted, I'm ready to do it.

Getting good grades in your pre-reqs >>>>> being at a university with its own dental school. You should really reconsider what is important in terms of weight.

I appreciate your reply, but it's not the one I was looking for.

Guys, I know that DAT, GPA, and EC are the most important things.

I just wanted to know if the though I described in my thread is true or not.

So far I only have 2 answers that touched the surface I'm looking for.

Transfer for reasons like money, social atmosphere, proximity to familiy, etc, not to get a better shot at a dental school. Transferring to get residency in a state with dental school(s) is the only dental-related reason I could see. Otherwise, I sincerely doubt it'll help.

If a student goes for undergrad to a university that also has a dental school, that student does not gain any increase in their chance to be accepted by that dental school because they attend the same university undergrad. End of Story. No exceptions.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks 🙂
