hey...
thought i'd give my perspective on this section of the test after seeing the previous thread...
imho, i think it's a waste of money to subscribe to a scientific journal or anything like that. i think, if anything, its just a good idea to read up on website like cnn.com every morning.. and just read through some of the articles. you get the intro, details, and whatever thing they say to wrap it up...its short and just long enough for you to think critically... and its better to scroll thru those pages than flipping through a physical magazine.
i would definitely break up each passage to 20 min.. no more. before i start the whole passage, i just quickly skim to the end to see how long it is so i can mentally prepare myself for how long its gonna be... then take a deep breath (believe me..it helps) and just read actively....really try to be interested, formulate the main focus of the passage for a good 10 seconds, and then hit the questions. this should take you about 7 -9 min tops (9 min for the 15+ passages). if you do this and read ...comfortably and more relaxed, you WILL have a good idea of where to find those answers for all those 'detail' questions.
i give myself a little breather after the first and second passages too.. instead of just rushing to the next one bc moving at some frantic pace definitely is not going to do you well (even if you think you're running out of time... DONT rush and take that deep breath)
i didn't do much else besides sticking to this and just reading up on news websites and stuff (no heavy mumbo jumbo) and was pretty ok on the real DAT... hope this helps some of you ...
