Hi all,

Throughout my (nontrad) journey of taking pre reqs and career-switching to medicine it has become clear to me that my true interest is Osteopathy. I have shadowed numerous practitioners, and I find the most resonance with hands-on practitioners who use manipulation to address structural issues. Some practitioners I shadowed would also use various forms of injection therapy (prolo) in their work, which was fascinating. The true osteopaths I shadowed were very inspirational, real healers in every sense of the word.

Anyway, I wondered if there was anyone else on these boards primarily interested in real osteopathy. I get discouraged sometimes at the length of this process when I know that what I truly want to study is osteopathy and it feels like I could learn that more in depth in another country (but then, from what I can gather, not be able to practice the manipulation in the states).

You need a medical background with osteopathic training. It makes you a better practitioner. If you want to practice OMM sludge through the rest of school (everyone does this... we don't like everything we learn) and pursue an NMM/OMM residency.

This would be the safest idea. You get a medical education and go through into a residency focused on OMM.
