I ve been here in SDN a while and it is really fun when I see that everyone claims that their school is better.

Whenever a question about schools quality or "which is better?" comes up, people around here(including myself) always argue and say that the school they are going or they got accepted is a whole lot better than others. 😀 and they bring up all kinds of excuses... more clinical.. more teeth they pull out.. more didactics.. more science backgrounds.. patients.. location.. what so ever.

I believe the only thing that can stop this endless argument is a reliable dental school ranking. so that whenever a question like "Case VS Temple VS penn VS Columbia Vs NYU..." comes up, the answer can be nice and clean..

But. as you know.. in the real world, that kinda ranking does not exist. and I think it is meaningless to rank all those schools when each school has different mission and quality or characteristics. It is impossible to line them up from 1 to 53.

So.. the bottom line is.. make decision on your own. my best school could not be your best and your best schooll could not be my best option. informative questions can be very helpful. but I think it is meaningless to ask " which would you go?" or VS type of questions.

I hope everyone here find the best school. Let's be smart and good luck! 👍

Personally, I am a big fan of Columbia.. anybody with me? 😀

NAhhhhhh UMDNJ is the best lol 🙄

but it's true... i got accepted to 6 schools..and people are like "why the hell did u chooose UMNDJ over stony brook!? or Temple!?.... well i feel very comfortable at UMDNJ and tht's y i sent my deposit in the same exact day i got my acceptance letter w/o giving it a second thought...

After all, when u open ur practice, it does not matter much where u went but what u made of it.

Go to the place you like the best. With that said when people ask _____vs______ questions most of us tell everyone why we like the school we go to. That is why we are biased and why I will always throw out props to Temple. In the end, dental school is dental school.

This is a professional world. The only fields where the school name matters are law and business. It's irrelevant in dentistry. The biggest question is...

...who has the best hands? More specifically, who can best manuver around small spaces? That'll make the best dentist.

Having taken a ceramics class is a good start, but the class itself doesn't demonstrate that innate hand ability. Plus, ceramics don't hone in the detailed movements. Painting can be good, as long as the artist doesn't focus on broad brush strokes.

It's already established that perceptual reasoning means very little, because those entering top schools just don't have the PAT scores. Weaknesses of the games aside, those who have good control of 3D visualization should do well on the PAT.

Reminds me of a Simpson's episode "The fingers you have used to dial the number are to fat."

If any of you have fat fingers it would be best to look for a new career right now. 😉

Yes, but I think the people who ask know this WANT this biased opinion, just to get the perspective from people who are actually at the schools.

When I was a naive SDNer, I did just that. 🙂

And, as we've all seen, there does seem to be a range of whether people like their schools or not. So you will be getting at least some negative feedback.

I agree that various people are happy at various schools, but I still think that the students attended them will give pretty good ideas of what's happening.

my handpiece skills brings all the dentists to the yard and thier life is better yours...damn right better than yours.

i can teach you, but i'll have to charge.

Indubitably.

Well, I have giant bear paws, and I can honestly say, while they rarely let me cut teeth at the office I worked at, they were impressed with Ye Olde Enlgyshe lettering I used when inscribing team names on their instruments.

Do I have a point after that potent and probably pointless post? Probably not. But anyway, big hands a dentist deficient in dexterity does not make 🙂

Ranking dental schools would be fun. Then when we get done with that, we can start ranking all dental school applicants. Let's see: we can use a factor of 3.8 for the GPA a factor of 3.2 for the DAT, research factor of 2.632, I think you get my point. Can't be done on any scale that works for everybody - therefore; as has been said before; go to the one that seems best for you.

Perceptual reasoning/ability/3D visualization does come in handy when trying to figure out which maxillary cusps glide past which mandibular cusps in retrusive/protrusive/laterotrusive/mediotrusive movements.

Touche grasshopper😎 😀
