I will be a re-applicant for the next cycle assuming I don't get in. I will have my BA in Bio in May. I want to plan for the worst so I need to decide on a Post-Graduate program. I have an option of going to a Masters or Certificate program. Which would be better? The Certificate will be in Physiology and will only be 1 year vs 2 for the Masters. I don't even know if either of them is a good option...any input on what is the best way to play my cards is appreciated.

I've done the GPA calculations myself based on the ADEA format and based on my Spring 07 schedule; I should be 2.8 overall and 3.1 sciences. I am also planning on retaking the DAT in Feb and rocking them.

Stats for this year's application:
Undergrad gpa: 2.72 on ADEA
Science gpa: 3.01 on ADEA
dat: 18, 20, 17
(AA=18, PAT=17, QR= 14, RC=18, Bio=21, GChem=18, OChem=21)

I also have research, and assisting.

if you want to do master, i think there are some one year good master programs. On top of my head, i can only think of george town b/c a friend of mine is doing his master over there. But he also mentions that there are a lot of programs out there. I was in a similar situation like yours last year and i ended up working in the research institute instead. So do a good research before you decide anything. Good luck!

dude, just kick that DATs ass. there are plenty of ppl w/ poor GPAs and awesome dat scores that have many interviews....

i have a great gpa and just good DAT scores and i'm not getting any love.

aint fair, but who said life's fair?

jb!

i know i have to rock the DAT and I will...im so determined right now and in a perfect state of mind to do it.

however, i dont want to sit out next year. the certificate is: Physiology, Certificate in (Post-baccalaureate Pre-medical Basic Health Science graduate certificate)

its a 1 year program and its pretty much the main 1st year courses in any medical program (biochem, immuno, histo, etc). the question is, will going after a Masters look a whole lot better than a certificate? will the certificate be enough if i can get 3.5-4.0 GPA just in case I dont get accepted. In my opinion, there should always be a safety net.

thanks for all the help.
