'Ello,

I am currently a senior in high school and will have completed four dual-enrollment classes at a local university by the end of the year (each 3 credits, so I'll have 12 credits total and "technically" be a second semester freshman).

The classes are:

1. ENG 103 (Composition--writing essays and being evaluated on basic writing)
2. ENG 104 (Basics on Research)
3. Anat 201 (Fundamentals of Human Anatomy)
4. MATHS 161 (Applied Calculus)

I am highly interested in being pre-med next year. I understand what the prereqs for med school are (and the recommended classes as well).

What I'm wondering is: Will med schools be okay with my year of English being out of the way (in high school)? I'll take one or two upper-level English classes later in college, just not the "basic" ones. Also, will they be okay with my year of Calc (equiv. to one semester in college), that I took in high school? I understand the English and Math credits are moreso "recommended" prereqs rather than mandatory (Physics, Chem, OChem, and Bio).

So, is it that big of a deal? Especially since I'm getting As in them. And, when I go to this local Uni next year, the grades won't even show up on my transcript. Just the credits and the fact that they contributed to my GPA.

Highly appreciate any input, thanks. 😉

I had more than 25 credits dual-enrollment when I graduated highschool, some in pre-reqs. They treat those credits like any other college credits--it's quite straightforward. What I don't understand is that you say it won't show up on your transcript... it should. All credits that you take at that university should show up on the transcript. When I dual-enrolled and started attending the same university, everything showed up in one place. As far as the university was concerned, being *technically* in high school when I attended those classes was irrelevant.

The credits and proof I took the class will show up on my transcript, just not the grades for them.

Which is why I'm not going to take Bio or some other prereq class this way (at least at my University).

Well your grades have to show up on your transcripts because when you apply you will need to send you transcript to AMCAS and they will need your grades to calculate a standardized GPA. Are you talking about your high school transcript? The university has to keep a record of your grades. Personally, I say that you did a good job getting the useless classes out of the way so you can focus on the sciences. Do you have AP credits or something? I would recommend that you not use the AP credits and retake those classes for an easy A to bolster your GPA.

Are you 100% sure about this? I took dual enrollment credits (16) during my senior year of high school, my grades are on my transcript and med schools do not care because it's not like they make classes easier for you...

English and math (especially math) are just as much prereqs as bio or chem. Did you take AP calc in highschool and do well on the test? If so, that probably satisfies one semester of the math, but not both.
