I am applying for 2009 and wanted some of your thoughts about my particular situation. I initially went into undergrad at an institution ranked in the top 10 party schools every year and this is one of the reasons I wanted to go there. I definitely had a great time but did not do so well in my classes (2.0 gpa according to AADSAS) because I did not study at all and I had a drug problem. I transferred to a small private liberal arts college, stopped using the substances, and eventually graduated cum laude in bio and scored in the 95th percentile on the DAT.
My question is this: I know I may have to explain my previous poor academic performance on supplementals or interviews so should I tell them my substance problem affected my grades or should I keep that one to myself and tell them it was immaturity or something of that sort?
