It is true, we must keep it civil, we are after all an educated community that will be taking care of the human race in a couple of years or so. However, it is important to be aware and accepting of others around you. If you disagree, you can do so in a civil manner. For example a member posted that this is a secular community thus the zeal should be kept down; that was civil as no attacks were made. I respect that opinion, however, I simply disagree because in my opinion we should be a faithful community that is understanding of others of-course and not so secular and individualistic.

Allah is the arabic word for God. A Muslims can use Allah or God if he/she is speaking in english. Just like he/she could use the spanish word for God if he/she was speaking in spanish (I wish I knew what it was 😀)

Okay thanks. I knew Allah was the word for God but I thought they only used Allah.

LOL, my Spanish is rusty but I think the spanish word for God is Dio, with the accent on the "i" or it could be Dia. The masculine/feminine in spanish was my main problem:laugh:

Common, why do you have to be like this? First, I agree with you on the fact that I am no closer to God than anyone else and I made that clear in my reply to that message of prayer!
I got into two D.O. Schools, and 3 M.D. schools. However, I will be attending UIC medical school next year, hopefully.
Also, I am a very dedicated and hard working student, and I have a lot of extracurricular activity. However, I go to an average university.
However, I still don't understand why you don't like me! Although I do say that God helped me enter medical school as He helps me in my every day life and everything I do, I do not say that I am a special case. I was just simply presenting a statistical method that could help a person with practice tests that vary a lot to predict His or Her possible score, of-course this is just a though and should not be used in a very serious manner! It wasn't a simple average, it was a little more complicated as there were many calculations involved, however, in a way that makes sense.
I had a different username, I didn't post much but I forgot my password and the email I used for the account, so I just created a new user name.
Please forgive me if I wronged you in any way or form!

Since you requested, My MCAT breakdown was Physical 9, Bio 10, Verbal 9 and these were my activities:
Things I have done:

  • Masjid (Mosque) Director

  • Volunteer at Rush University Medical Center
  • And I shadowed a doctor for the summer of application to medical school, plus some more later on.
Cashier/Desk Attendant at Cernan Earth and Space Center

I love how itchy people get when the word "God" comes up...

(Disclaimer: I'm Christian who has some serious concerns about certain forms of Islam but believes in the First Amendment and the sentiment expressed in it. I find it disturbing that I and others are expected to censor our faith in such an "open-minded" society.)
 
OP, you know everything about religion but nothing about internet forums. I suggest you do some homework.

Last question, did you apply as URM status or OOS? This is actually quite important. Many applicants fall within the 'grey zone' of borderline grades and states to get into medical school. The average matriculating has a GPA of 3.5 and 31 MCAT (high IMO). Usually those with borderline stats are admitted due to something that made them stand out. URM students and in-state residents have more lee-way with their gpa and mcat (i.e. 28 mcat will count as a 30). Since I am sure there are many ppl who share similar stats as you have, this information could be very useful. Thank you again and I hope you do replay.

I agree with this. How do we consider ourselves to be "open-minded?" The responses in this thread are beyond ridiculous!
 
The point is, the content of the original post could easily have been presented without the overt religious references. I'm not even sure of the point in the first place, besides to celebrate acceptance which is fine.

But the post reads like this:

"Hey everyone, I thought I wouldn't get into medical school [by the way I'm religious]. But I did get in, and I had slightly less than average stats [I'm really religious! Look at me!] Here is my average MCAT score and great GPA [....did I mention I was religious?]"

What do you expect when you post something with blatant preaching in it? Like 5 references to God in BOLD freaking font and a huge preachy signature. And screen name = "ServantofAllah". It's like someone wearing a "God Rocks" t-shirt to class just so everyone can see it.

NO actually, I didn't apply as an URM, I did not have that choice during the application although if we come to reality I am probably an URM, and I am in state. However, I do have some outstanding experiences in my life that I think helped me get in, thank God.
Many times we find our selves in difficult situations and complain, however, after they are resolved we find out that we learned so much from them and that we became better because of those situations although we might not realize it at the moment! This is kind of vague, but you probably get the general idea.

In Fact, I did, we actually discussed religion in a thorough manner in my interview as the interviewee was very interested in Islam.
By the way prettyslick, I really don't understand you. First you are Pakistani, then you are asking me how do you Pray to God (I mean common, what kind of question is that, especially if you are a Muslim?), not understanding that I do no consider my self that sincere? Then your most recent posts!
I really respect people that are direct, but I do not respect Hippocratic people at all.

I said "relate" I dont have to be Pakistani to relate to a Pakistani (see below "Desi" term)

i.e I can be a fellow South Asian (India or Sri Lanka) and still relate to a Pakistani.

Indian or Paki can be a desi, therefore both have similar cultures!

Again, we go back to your interpretations verses what I intended. I was simply giving thanks where it is due. Does thanking God mean that you are religious, and who am I to consider my self religious in the first Place. I am in no position to judge my status in front of God, only God judges us. If I am religious then thank God, and if I am not, well I am worth nothing since this life is nothing more than a test.

Mentioning God in my user name and signature is an act of Reminder of God. However, the content of the post discussed a different topic, however, people apparently are not used to seeing posts that mention God frequently, and thus you have interpreted it in a wrong manner.
