I came across a huge problem, my sciences courses taken after 2013 are not showing the description of associated labs with the lecture which is present in the transcript.

1-Are un official transcripts similar to official transcripts?

2- what to do if my unofficial and official don't show that a lab was taken with the science lecture course?

3- I'm so worried.

No idea what an unofficial transcript is, but you should try to get something in writing by the department? Or perhaps your registrar...

Similar thing happened to me last year.
1. I requested official transcript to be sent to AADSAS but after the request has been submitted I found out that there is an error with course title on my unofficial. So, I had to call the registrar's office to change the name and submitted another request to send updated official transcript to AADSAS.

2. i don't think my transcript showed which course had labs included either

3. it turned out fine for me so you should be ok too but I would definitely call and double check

Do you think this will mess up my app?

All I am missing is this course work part.

Who should I call?

And to be clear, my unofficial student copy of transcript shows description of science lecture with grade and credit #
But below the description there is no description for the science lab.

Almost ALL of my bio courses did not have the labs listed separately. The lab was not included in any sort of "description" on my transcript. I ran into no problems. Dental shools know that they aren't always listed separately. Your registrar hasn't messed up... this is just how some schools do things (mine included).

For example, all of my bio classes were worth 4 credit hours. It is totally standard for a bio class to be worth 3 credit hours and then the lab worth 1 credit hour. Like I said... dental schools know that.

What percent% do you give yourself for accuracy, on this judgement?

Do you have any references for this "standard"

I literally said in my post that this is common and happened to me last year. So did joeeeey3.

If you are truly this worried and are wanting concrete answers from the source... then why aren't you calling the source? AADSAS is there every weekday.

I called them, and were no help, they just said list the courses as it is listed on the transcript.

Then I called one of the schools I am applying to, NYU, and they said that both lecture and lab must be listed. They told me this today, and this is why I am posting here on SDN. Tomorrow I will call registrar.

I was hoping for someone that had been through this situation tell there story.

I go to a CUNY school.

Well... my story is that my transcript showed the exact same thing as yours does (labs weren't listed separately from bio classes), and I ran into no problems.

If you apply to a school and they want to know whether or not the labs were included, they can always just ask you! 🙂

I hope so....

Either way I will update this page with any results.

What a mess!

Pleas any body reading this please make sure your transcripts are in order and please order yourself an official copy transcript.

Currently my transcripts do not show that I have taken a laboratory course for the science courses that I passed, which require laboratory.

I called aadsas and several schools and ask me to ask my undergrad school to update my transcripts, as if it were that easy.

This might push me back 1-2 weeks to submit my app!

Not good.

It disappointing because I did what ever I have to do up to this point in my life to apply to dental school, and now stuck with an issue I have no control over.

Pushing your app back 1-2 weeks isn't a big deal. Good luck with getting this fixed!

Yes it is not that bad, but imagine applicants who begin their application in July or August.

I was in a similar situation. My labs are not listed in the transcript and the school does not give any credit for the lab. In other words there was no way for dental schools to know whether I had a lab component in any of the courses I have taken.
I called the registrar and asked them to write me a letter showing which courses that I had taken had a lab component. They listed all the courses with the lab component and sent it directly to the schools I applied to. Worked out at the end.

Yeah that might suck, but I've always checked my unofficial transcript regularly at the end of the semester. I assume most people do the same, and in my experience (at 6 different schools lol) the unofficial doesn't differ in content from what is on the official. It's just that an official transcript may be printed on different paper and is presented in a sealed envelope.

As far as your original question, a couple of my science labs don't specifically show up on the transcript, but I'm not worried that this will be a problem. If the class is 4 credits or 5 credits, I think schools will know that most likely there was a lab attached.

Yup--totally agree. Schools know. I ran into ZERO problems with my transcript being like this.

However, it certainly can't hurt to just go ahead and send a letter to schools letting them know about your classes with labs (like @dent777).

@tooth knockn, I don't think is something your registrar can fix. There aren't actually any "errors" with your transcript--this is just how your school chooses to include science courses. (And trust me, your school is not alone in this. I think it is done this way at many schools.) Just do what dent777 suggested if you are truly worried about this. That should alleviate any issues.

I'm not dental, but I don't think you'll have any problem. I had Physics II, Bio I, and Bio II as simple 4-credit courses that included lab, but the lab aspect is not mentioned at all on the transcript. No one cared. I think it's obvious that the lab component was included because they were 4-credit classes.

So far, just got of the phone with a dental school and aadsas , and I think that is true, transcripts with out lab described is ok, but could be questioned, before acceptance or entry of DS

Like Glimmer has said it's fine that your courses don't explicitly state that they have a lab component on the transcript. If the courses are more than 3 semester units, I think schools can put 2 and 2 together and realize they have a lab associated with them. If you run into any real issues just refer whoever questions you to your school course catalog online which I'm sure would clearly show that those courses have a lab....

Finally I got a good official response from registrar at my school, there is a form to fill out in case if any dental schools request more info about the laboratory work associated with the science course.

I received today my official transcripts and there were some differences from the "student unofficial transcript" and "official transcript"

My official transcript shows me summer1 and summer 2 courses I have taken.

My unofficial student transcript puts all the summer courses together, no summer 1 or 2.

Everything seemed the same.

Hopefully this helps.
