On Monday August 6th, US Marshals seized materials and computers from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. This action by the federal court followed investigations and complaints by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) into alleged breaches of the NAPLEX and MPJE. Following allegations of the NAPLEX and MPJE exams being compromised, we are receiving second hand information that NABP is considering shutting down the current version of NAPLEX and MPJE.

HEY guys so now that we cant take the NAPLEX for a long time what is the best way to study for the CPJE? I took the exam online offered by California BOP and the questions look very NAPLEX based. Has anyone taken the CPJE and know the best way to study for it? How long should I study for? This NAPLEX suspension has got me really bummed out and kina angry at the whole thing being my loans are going to start kicking in a few weeks. 🙁

I guess cheating really does hurt everyone. I really don't understand why someone would need to "cheat" (use Flynn's class) to pass the naplex. It was seriously a very fair and simply test to pass.

That's not really fair. My state's board of pharmacy (not GA) and my college endorsed and encouraged Flynn's review. I had NO IDEA what he was doing was illegal....I didn't even know he was previously sued by NAPLEX until he mentioned it at the review session! I was frightened about the NAPLEX and overprepared with resources other than Flynn's, and it was easy...but I don't feel like I cheated.

The ones who emailed him questions after the test like he encouraged.....well, I'm scared for them.

I was a student at the UGA COP. I took flynn's classes and reviews. He reviewed alot of basic facts (kind of like a study guide) based on what he thought we needed to know from our classes. Most of which was not covered on either test. His thoughts were that these were important in the real life of a pharmacist. He also covered subjects that he though might be on the test. But with individual reviews, (or a supposed question from a student) he covered the initial problem, ways to look at the problem and what other things could go wrong. For example, a general antiobiotic question...the test can ask what bugs does it cover, what about allergies...what do you do there? Flynn also started with bacteria...what antibiotics would work here? what could they cause.

Flynn did not spoon feed us. He taught us a way of lookin at the information we had and being able to look at all sides of a basic idea. So that we would be prepared better. As we left that review, my group had at least 10 refrence materials to review before the test. As he told us to, never stop learning.

I think its crap that they are doing this to him. And just so you know, for all the haters out there, If you have ever discussed the test with someone else, you are just as guilty as you perceive him to be. Everyone talks about a test when its over. Everyone!!! When you leave the site and call your buddies to tell them what you had to deal with on the test. The NAPLEX was easy. Took me less than an hour to complete. But I studied more from texts than a review class. The review did not cover the test I got. All aids, bugs and drugs. Good luck yall

So - you're pre-pharmacy & have already taken the NAPLEX?

curious......

I am very anxious now, i took the naplex once and i fail..( i dont have any review notes at that time.)...and i am a slacker when i was in school.
And i am worry about the new naplex will be even worse, i dont know what to study.....Not only worry about when the naplex will be reinstate; but also dont have any simple questions to study from..
Can Nabp really able to write a whole new exam? or the just going to take out what flynn has? or they going to modify the questions?
I am very panic because if i cant take the naplex asap, and pass it, i wont be able to afford my student loans, and daily expense...
nabp is killing me, why they have to do this now...
please advice.

I guess you shouldn't have been a slacker in school. Reread all your notes from school. Do this every day. If you didn't take notes in school, then you'll have to read books. What about your rotations? I learned a lot with antibiotics and renal dosing while on rotations. Did you slack off on those, too? It seems like you have a poor command of the English language, which could also be part of the problem.

I doubt that Flynn's notes had more than a fraction of the actual questions in the NAPLEX test bank. My guess is that they will pull these questions from the database and reinstate the exam.

Hi all,

I'm Andrea Jones, the higher education reporter at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Anyone want to talk to me about how the Flynn Warren case is affecting their test schedules, etc?

I'm at 404-526-7217 or [email protected]

Deadline is today.

Thanks!

Hey everyone seems like a lot of people feel as I do about this situation. So Andrea, when is this newspaper story coming out and can you send us a link to it. I called to give my onions about the situation.

Ok so now ill give my opinion on the matter: I mean I am losing a $15,000 sign on bonus for this which is kind of crazy plus my loans start in a few weeks. I had planned to take the NAPLEX and a week later the Law exam. From what I learned in pharmacy school (I had some professors that wanted to be worshiped and students had no say in the matter even though I was in student govt) stop trying to change what we cant (most times powerful people run everything without realizing how much they are affecting the downstream). The NAPLEX is hard, so study your ass off for it because you never know what questions you may get (especially now that the NABP prob things we all have these so called secret notes). Some of you might stick up for Flynn, but im kinda angry at the whole thing, it strictly says on the exam form that the questions are property of the NABP and should not be shared. I mean its OK to talk about it with your friends but years and years of questions gathered from students and charging for it. How fair is that to those that dont have any of this study material or cant afford it. Granted the NAPLEX doesn't prove how good of a pharmacist someone is but everyone should have the same equal opportunity to take it in the same terms.

Some get the easier versions or questions they were familiar with and claim it was a piece of cake others get things like Chemo or HIV drugs and end up not doing so well, however if this person had this "fantastic" review they may have done better. For one to say its simple is a matter of opinion on what your expertise is the subject handed to you. All I say is just look toward the future and become a powerful man/woman but look down on those that your actions affect and be a humanist and have compassion because in the end karma comes around to bite you. Ohh yeah and recycle!!
And can someone please tell me the best material to study for the CPJE as i am not orig from Cali. Cheers!!

Hi everybody it looks like no body has seen the last post on the NABP website,
NABP Cautiously Estimates November NAPLEX and Georgia MPJE Reinstatement
NABP announced to its member boards of pharmacy on Thursday, August 30, 2007 that the NAPLEX and Georgia MPJE will be reactivated as soon as possible when NABP is confident that both examinations are able to validly assess the entry-level competence of pharmacists to safely practice pharmacy. NABP cautiously estimates that the examinations will be reinstated by early November 2007, following review and approval by NABP. Upon reactivation, the NAPLEX and Georgia MPJE programs will provide valid, psychometrically sound assessments of candidate competence and will embody the highest standards of testing that characterize and define NABP and its programs. This rapid reactivation timeline is possible thanks to the strength of the programs and processes that NABP has in place and despite these programs having sustained significant damage that may have completely destroyed other programs

Do you have any clue what does this means ?

I just wish they wont change the style of the test

I would definitely be willing to participate in a class action lawsuit.
I recently got married and have bills up the a$$.
Also, the kicker is that i actually attended Flynn Warren's class at UGA in Athens, Georgia. I had no clue he was being investigated for anything
However, i didnt even get a chance to take the exam since it got cancelled (i was scheduled to take it sept 10)
But let me say for the record: Flynn Warren is one of the most intelligent and sincere people i have ever met. He truly cares for his students and i dont know a single student who has spoken otherwise.

Anyway, Give me the name and contact info for this lawyer and i will jump on the bandwagon.

Sincerely,

~Pi$$ed off

my question is: why this year? Why not before? And what about the many, many pharmacists who have taken his class through the years? Are they planning on revoking licenses or at least giving people refunds?

That was the same question I had, why not before the graduation date of most pharmacy schools if this had been going on for years, the authorities should have jumped on it before June when most of us graduated. Was there anyone that was able to schedule their NAPLEX during October because I just did and I don't know if I will need to change it later or any other circumstances that will follow. Has anyone heard if they are making the exam more difficult or including different topics (ie: making it more clinical based?). I keep hear good things about this Flynn guy but I honestly don't care because it states it clearly on the NAPLEX exam not to share the questions so for him doing such doesn't seem like the most logical thing now does it?

I honestly think those people taking the exam in november are lucky b/c the NAPB is going to make that exam easier for at least the first couple of months so people don't complain that they made a harder exam. Go celebrate people!!! I on the other hand will probably be screwed b/c I am still a P3 and it will probably be super hard by the time I take it, oh well that's life.

I truly feel bad for everyone who hasn't written the exam yet and is being affected by this entire situation. However, I don't even understand why people need review sessions for the naplex. Everyone I had talked to told me the exam was easy... so I barely studied for the exam. I scored 140 as my scaled score, studying less than 3 days-no review course. Everyone I have talked to from my university has scored over 100.

Secondly, why any professor would ask students to report questions they see is absurd and illegal. The only motivation would be the money he is making off the review session seriously. I really don't care about all the testimonials about how he is a great professor. He can be the greatest professor in the world, but what he has been doing and how it is now affecting naplex candidates is completely illegal.

Finally, for all the people considering law suits... I understand your frustration. I would also be upset if this affected myself getting licensed especially if you had nothing to do with the illegal review. But, you have to understand you have no case. You would have to prove that you would have passed your exam on the first try, and unfortunately NABP holding the exam due to breach of exam information is within their power.

You would have to prove that you would have passed your exam on the first try.

Nah, not really. Why? Because even if you failed, you'd be able to take the retest however many months earlier than if the test wasn't halted. Not that it matters anyway. If such an action went through, it would be long after anyone affected is already licensed that the case would be decided......so we'd already know who passed and who didn't. I'd say you certainly would have a case against that Flynn dude and maybe even UGA.

Actually... if you fail the naplex you must wait 91 days before you are eligible for re-test. Therefore, even if someone was scheduled to take it at the end of august and was affected by the issue... they wouldn't be eligible for re-test until the end of november!!!

The new Naplex will definitely be changed and i'm 100% sure it will be more difficult. I don't agree with the person who said that the new exam will be easier at first because as many of you have heard thru friends that the exam doesn't really test your pharmacy knowledge but on the contrary just tests you on useless facts that some remember and others simply don't. So with that said if they keep testing us on useless facts the new questions will be tougher on the first ones taking it because as time goes on the first ones are going to help their friends taking the exam and so on. I have roughly 60 close friends that took the exam last year and around 35 this year who already took the old exam and they all had roughly the same exam- i was scheduled to take my exam this week and i was real confident about it but now i don't know. I took a review course offered by my school and i heard its similar to what many other schools offer such as flynn's so again i'm worried that such material reviewed will now be useless.. again since the questions will be changed...

I disagree that the test is only useless facts. Most of my questions were case studies where I had to choose appropriate drug therapy. You need carefully look at the case where you could find a possible contraindication to one of the drugs offered, there could be an allergy, it might not be properly dosed for a child, etc.

These are things you will see every day as a pharmacist. Even though you have references available, you do not have time to look up every drug for every patient. You just need to know your drugs.

I did have one useless fact question, which was what drug is used to treat some disease I never heard of. Other questions, such as side effects of drugs can be reasoned through and choices eliminated. It had been 2 years since I had pharmacology, but if you learned the material then, you will be okay now.

Does anyone know what to study for the Mass pharmacy law exam? what should I focus on? I heard the questions are pretty tricky.
