So like all of these seem interesting, and I need to decide on one to do research in this upcoming summer... Any suggestions? Is it harder to match into, say, rad-onc or ophthal if I did summer research in surgery, or vice versa?

Radiology
Ophthalmology
Anethesiology
Dermatology
EM
Neurosurg
Plastic
Ortho
Rad-Onc

Hah, funny how all the ROAD specialties are right in line first.

Anyway, a good approach may be to look at the actual projects (assuming you'll be jumping on with other's projects) of each area and then choose based on which actual project interests you.

Why not pick the project you are most interested in? I dont think anyones gonna fault you for doing research in say diabetes after your first year and then later decide to apply to plastics, it might even be an asset. Being able to talk about something during an interview that excites you is always a plus.
