National Dean's List

I was "invited" last year to submit a bio for the National Dean's List. I thought it was cool until I realized that the goal was to sell me stuff - coffee mug anyone? I still think it's kind of cool, but I wonder how big a deal it is?

Did any of you who participated list it on your applications? Is it really an honor or is it just a marketing ploy? 😳

That's a good question. I've wondered this myself. Same with 'Who's Who'. I was given my Who's Who certificates at award ceremonies after receiving notification of being "nominated" for the award. I'm not sure if that's actually true or they just got a list of people over a certain grade point average. I tend to think it's a marketing ploy for both, but I'm sure listing them anyway...maybe I'm wrong!

Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities requires that you are nominated by your institution. At the college I went to, professors proposed & discussed which students names to submit. So, at least it is an honor that at least one of your professors think you are worth it.

I've recieved the same letter year. I'm not sure how much it's "worth," but I"m going to put it on my application, it doesn't hurt. Maybe they'll see that and it's something they'll bring up during the interview, tha'ts one less question you WONT know how to answer, hahaha. 😀

I guess it will help get into pharmacy school, but the only "list" per say that matters and is meaningful once in pharmacy school is the Rho Chi list or the Phi Lambda Sigma list.

people in our pharmacy school got those national deans list things too...

i laughed... because you're right if you're not rho chi... your grades don't matter

the who's who guide is a book of names that people buy just to read their own name .

IF you want to read your own name there are so many free ways you can do it

1. if you are male and you live in a snowy climate...go for it
2. write it on paper 100 times
3. keep copies of your receipts.

The National Deans List looks like its part of the Who's Who system. I went ahead and submitted my form anyway, without buying anything. It certainly wont hurt and because you have to be nominated it at least seems like a legitimate thing to put on your resume.

I don't think it truly matters, I mean, if the pharmacy school sees your GPA THAT will tell them what kind of grades you make, rather than paying to be on a list. I got it as well and passed on it. Not a big deal in the whole scope of things.
