For future/current pharmacists wishing to serve our country:

The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) is recruiting individuals to be part of a National Pharmacist or Nurse Response Teams. The National Pharmacist Response Teams (NPRTs) and National Nurse Response Teams (NNRTs) will be used to assist in chemoprophylaxis, vaccination of hundreds of thousands or millions of Americans, or perhaps in another scenario requiring hundreds of pharmacists and nurses. Team members will be enrolled in the National Disaster Medical System. NPRT or NNRT volunteers will be paid when activated, reimbursed for travel and per diem expenses, and have liability coverage outside their state of licensure. NPRTs will be sponsored by the Joint Commission of Pharmacist Practitioners, while the NNRTs are sponsored by the American Nurses Association.

NNRT and NPRT members are to complete web-based training programs, stay current in treatment recommendations for diseases compatible with weapons of mass destruction, participate in a yearly training exercise, and be available to deploy when needed. Although this scenario has not occurred to date, it is our hope that you and your profession will be ready.

Complete the application forms on our website by going to
www.oep-ndms.dhhs.gov/NDMS/Downloads/downloads.html.
You will find the "Application package for non-federal individuals" or the "Application Package for Federal Employees."
