Sorry if this has been adressed before. Could someone please explain to me how Navy ADTs work? Is it one a year? Can you do more than one rotation during your M3 and M4 years with the military? What do you do with you summer after M1?

You are required to do one per year. You can do as many military rotations that you want during your M3 and M4 years but you will only be paid for the 45 days that you are active duty. You will have to set up the rotations yourself and apply for the orders (for your 45 days).

M1 summer is normally when you go to OIS, but some people go before starting school. In this case you can do whatever you want during your summer.

Thanks for the reply. I will, assuming nothing goes wrong with the paperwork, be going to OIS before school starts. Do you know of anything I could do with the Navy over the summer of my M1 in that case?

Also I know this is looking ahead, but should I plan on doing one or two unpaid military rotations M3 and M4 years, or do I generally just want to do the paid rotations?

If you want to do something with the navy, I would recommend asking the navy program directors if they have any research rotations. I haven't done any so I don't know how beneficial to you they may be. It would be too early for you to make a big splash doing anything else. Another option that you could do is get involved in some research projects at your school over that summer. I'm not pushing research on you, it's just that you may get some extra points when it's time to match if you have been envolved in research, especially if your professor lets you put your name on the paper for publication. You may as well put the time to good use.

The number of military rotations that you do would depend on what you want to do. It's always best to rotate where you want to go, and if you are trying for a competative specialty it may be wise to rotate wherever it is offered (i.e. all three big hospitals).

I didn't do HPSP, but I believe that during first and second year you dont' actually have to go anywhere (except OIS, but if that conflicts with your school, then you should be able to get out of it), but they still pay you for 45 days each year.
