I agree with the above posters; you cannot be simultaneously willing to serve yet unwilling to leave the country. Perhaps you meant "disinclined" to leave the country and it was just a poor choice of words? Many of us who serve are so disinclined, yet we do it because we put service before self.
That's the bottom line when it comes to military service. You have to accept that the needs of the service come before your personal desires and, ultimately if necessary, your life. See Article I of the Code of Conduct:
I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.
Granted I don't many dentists have been killed in combat, but it's certainlypossible. If Iran decides to swarm attack the carrier you're on in the Gulf, for example, there's a chance you'll go down with it. If you're stationed in Bahrain and another Arab Spring (much worse than 2011's) rolls around, everyone on that base is going to be in danger. Including the dentists.
If this is unacceptable to you, then I think civilian dentistry is the right answer.
With that said, I'm not just trying to be an dingus and I do want to be helpful. There is something of a middle ground; take a look at this link:
