I've recently heard that the Navy will be doing away with all GMO billets. I was wondering if this includes flight surgeon billets. I just received acceptance into med school so I'll graduate in 2013 and I've been looking at the HPSP program in hopes of being a flight surgeon for a few years before residency. Any insight into this situation would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It seems like this rumor circulates every year. Indeed, i think congress mandated the removal of all gmo slots a decade ago.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Thanks for the input. Just out of curiosity, are there any current/former flight surgeons out there that could give some insight into what the job is like and more importantly would you recommend it? Thanks in advance for any help.
