Hi,
I have a very basic question, the NBDE -1 appointment is of 8.5 hrs duration. My understanding is that 3.5 +3.5 hrs. are alotted for solving 400 q's. So does that mean there is a 2.5 hrs break in between? My exam is at 8.00am.Can somebody please tell me how it works?
Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your reply, so this means reporting time is 8.00 am, they check your identity and stuff, and the actual exam would start say 1/2 hr later, right? Hopefully I'll be wide awake by then !!.😉

Thanks again iomega.

hi,

1)Is it advisable to take breaks in between exam?i mean, during each session ,is it ok if we take few minutes break?

will the time be enough for completing the session then?when i study i feel that i can do better when i take breaks...but its risky in between exam, right??should i sit continuosly for 3 1/2 hour?

2)Also after taking the date, should we confirm again few days before the exam?if so what should i do exactly?can i do it through net or by calling the prometric?

will be helpful if all of u can advice me on this....
thanks in advance
rakhi

You can take breaks but not too many as you don't want to waste your time and also want to revise the questions .Hence plan accordingly and whereas date is concerned once you get the confirmation you don't have to reconfirm.
All the best

i heard there's a little tutorial in the start of the test - how long does that usually take? and it's not part of the first 3.5 hrs right?

also i have first ed first aid book and it says you get first 100 Q of anat then 100Q of biochm/phys and so on...but from other posts it seems like test breakdown is...

intro tutorial - 5 -15 min?
first section -anat and bchm/physc ALL MIXED together - 3.5 hrs allotted
1 hr lunch if u want
last section -dent anat/micro/path ALL MIXED together - 3.5 hrs allotted

and throughout any of the sections you get 7-8 testlets total? or maybe testlets are only in the path part in second half of day?

sorry if this seems like silly question but just don't want any surprises, esp. since asda papers give you all 100 on one topic together and first aid made it sound like that too so i was shocked to hear that its all mixed up...gotta train my brain to skip around more now i guess!

thanks for your help everyone!!! good luck to everyone still studying :luck:

i heard 1/2 of the testlets are at the end of the first section (before your one hour break) and the other 1/2 are at the beginning of second section (after your one hour break). yes the questions are mixed together.

Hi,
is it true that 1st 3.5hrs of exam contain qs of anat and biochem . 2nd part of exam contain micro and dental anat please someone confirm.thanq

hi ,

I too have this doubt,
1) if we take a 5 minute break in between any section, will that time be cut off from our 3.5 hrs or from the one hr lunch break?

2)we are allowed to go out of the building during lunch break, right?so is it like we will have to revise and close our morning session before lunch break and will not be allowed to go to that section after the break?

3)what do we have to do if we need a 5 minute break in between?just inform the prometric staff and go out or do we have to shut the screen or something like that before going?

All these may look like silly questions😳 ,but i am really confused and i want to be clear about all these before the exam day...so it will be really helpful if anyone could let me know about these.

Thanks

No, it is all intermixed. It is difficult to tell throughout the whole test whether you are answering Physiology vs. Biochem, vs. Anatomy etc. It is just a jumble of questions for the first half and the second. there is no designated sections. Your first half could have a lot of biochem, but your second not. It just depends on your test.

When the test starts time just runs. You decided how to do it. When you get to the lunch break you get to a "BREAK" screen. It will sit on that screen for one hour unless you click on end break. It will ask to verify you want to end the break. Once your second session starts the time again just runs until the next 3.5 hours is up. If you need to leave you just stand up, leave your computer as is, and sign in and out with a staff member. This takes some time however because you have to go through a routine of making sure you don't have any "data" on you. Like: pull out pockets, twirl around, and lift your pant legs.

Thankyou very much for replying Monchichiman....i appreciate it.

what about my second question,do we have to revise and complete all the unanswered questions of that session before lunch break.{i think we may have to...otherwise how can we go out of the building,right?}
please make clear this one too...thanks in advance

yes, you cannot go back to section 1 (200 questions) of the exam after your 3.5 hours followed by an optional 1 hour lunch break. your time will start exactly 1 hour after you end section 1 (or earlier if you chose not to take a lunch break or a shorter one, and you start section 2 earlier). you cannot go back and look at questions from section 1 when you start section 2. this is to minimize cheating as people are allowed to go wherever during lunch break.
