Which of the following ions is especially required in the blood clotting process?

1. Fe++
2. Na+
3. Ca++
4. Mg++
5. K+

I get that both Ca and K are essential/required for the cascade, but how do I know which one is SUPER special... I personally went with K, but the correct ans is Ca.

Any Ideas?

calcium itself is a blood clotting factor(factor 5)

Hi Super C,

Ca++ surely.Are you by any chance getting confused between K+ ions and vit. K ?
Vit. K ,Phylloquinone, is an anti-hemorrhagic factor that modifies various blood clotting factors.Its deficiency causes bleeding.Hope this helps.
