As questions about the changes to the NBDE keep coming up once in a while, I thought that I would share the following information that I found.
The NBDE will become pass/fail starting 2012. The test, however, will be different from the current test that is administered, as in it will have different question types. For more information about this, check out the following document and look at the section titled "New Item Types Coming to National Board Examinations in 2012".
http://www.ada.org/sections/educationAndCareers/pdfs/Volume_3_Number_2.pdf
For dental students that will be taking the board exam after 2015, the NBDE 1 and NBDE 2 will be combined into a single board exam, which will be known as the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE). I should mention that the implementation will be no sooner than 2015, so it can be implemented after 2015. Check out the following for more information:

For overall information about the changes to the NBDE, please follow the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) at http://www.ada.org/JCNDE.aspx
I hope this information is helpful!
