NBDE needed GPR/Specialty Programs?

Hi,

I am a Canadian student, and signed up to write by NBDE Part 1 exam for this summer. However, a friend of mine in the states told me that some GPR programs and specialty programs do not require the American Board exam anymore.

Is this true?

Just to add another question: Let's assume that the ADAT goes mainstream soon (and I'm still a couple of years from graduating). Would I still need to do the NBDE?
