hi guys,
can anyone please respond to few more questions about NBDE part 1?

Q1
Which of the following activates Osteoclasts?
Is it Thyroxine, Calcitonin or Insulin
PTH was not listed

Q2.
In a highly acidic environment the GC content of DNA is
a. highest
b. Intermediate
c. Low

Q3.
Which taste receptor has the lowest threshold for taste?
Bitter, sour, salty, sweet

Q4.
Patient get a full denture and come back after few days with burning over the anterior region. What is the reason of burning?
-No answer options available

Q5.
Difficulty in breathing in neonates is due to ..??
a. punctured lung
b. collapsed alveoli
c. increased surface tension of tissue

It would be a great help if anyone can help me out with these questions.
Thanks in advance.

Q1
thyroxine - increased cellular metabolism, growth but is also responsible for generalized osteoporosis

Q2
what do u mean with GC (guanine and cytosine)? I don't know this one. DNA is an acid. But I don't understand the Q 😕
Q3
salty, because there is a direct passage of ions through specialized channels, which causes receptor depolarization

Q4
since its acute I would guess ill fitting denture or some allergical reaction with the unbound metilmetacrylate monomer of the baseplate of the denture (that is a NBDE 2 question)

Q5
its b collapsed alveoli due to decreased surface tension of tissue

...correct me if I'm wrong

Bitterness has the lowest threshold. Think about it in terms of survival. Dangerous substances (ie poisons) are mostly bitter. To survive, we would want to immediately know when we are tasting something bitter, and thus spit it out. Thus, the threshold is a lot less, meaning that it would take a lot less substance to simulate the bitter taste than, say, something sweet or salty.

Bitter..i guess

incisive papilla

Q3: bitter, i agree w/ lionelhuntz

Q4: how about candadiasis?? that'd be my guess (and i already took it 🙂

Q5: Dr. TacoElf has got it right, increased surface tension (decreased elasticity) due to lack of surfactant

I agree with dr. tacoelf, my bad they have increased surface tension he's right it's C (decreased surface tension means expand easy during inspiration - I mixed it up)

hello
it's correct that the surface tension is high in premature infants due to lack of surfactant & today i read somewhere that this leads to a collapse of the alveoli leading to a respiratory distress syndrome in the infant.
so now we have 2 options as the answer,
high surface tension in tissue ,
& this leading to a collapse of alveoli
so ??????
