Well guys, I knew i didnt feel good at all coming out of the exam. I just barely passed.

anatomy 85
micro/path 85
biochem/phys 85
dental anatomy 85

end result 85

This is basically studying dental decks and some of the kaplan book. I didnt have a chance to go thru as much exams as i had wanted. If i would have gone thru more exams, i would have done better. I just read a few exams. Damn, now i dont knw what to do!! Im really dreading to take this part I again. So far i have a 3.65 GPA according to ECE. I am presently in my 8th semester of my dental education. I couldnt really study as much since i had to worry about my other classes....so do u think i can have a chance getting into a dental school in the US with this? i see everyone getting like >90 in the NBDE I and i feel like i cant compete with that. DO you think i can apply to schools with my GPA and a score of 85 and get an interview? BTW, I am a US citizen studying internationally if that helps any (probably not)🙁
thanx in advance

Hi
At this point of time just apply , you may stand a chance but at the same point of time be prepared to take it also , this is not to make you feel bad but the truth is i have gone through it so just apply and lets see all the best.

With those scores I would seriously plan on staying where you are internationally and just practicing. From my understanding it is basically impossible to come to the U.S. as an international dentist. On the other hand you could come to the U.S. and dental assist for the rest of your career and teach NBDE classes at Kaplan.

Fool, you're trippin!! you must be the most ignorant person on here!! you dont even know me or my clinical experience and past! But with your supremecist comment, you must definetely be new to this forum. Basically impossible to come back to the U.S.??? Look, people everyday are getting denied and accepted! So you would rather recommend me to work as a dental assistant or teach NBDE classes at kaplan....
how funny  !
Lets be fair, when the situation arises where you cant seem to stabalize your practice, come find me again on these forums and maybe- just maybe will i give you a job working for my fathers firm in the front desk of his office...fair enough? i think so.
And if your good? I might even let you answer the phones when i take over his corporation!

Look, on a serious note... good luck to you also, really! We both know, we're competing against the best in the world for the same goal!
i trully wish everyone on this forum the best of luck in persuing their career in the U.S.
All i was asking for was MATURE responses, suggestions, and comments. Thanks to everyone who has been a help to me with their positive posts, and thanks to anyone for their negative posts! You're the reason i keep trying...!
God Bless...

At least your GPA is good. The ECE gave me a GPA of 2.19. I think thats much worse than having a mid 80's score on your Part 1. You can always retake that exam and do better if you need to. My GPA is much harder to change.

Seriously just give up. If you could have made it then you would have got into a dental school in the U.S. People don't like the honest truth and thats too bad.🙁

How can you have your GPA evaluated from the ECE, when you are still in your 8th semester in dental school? Normally if you're still an undergrad, all you'd normally need is a special kind of recommendation letter saying that you took the classes thats incuded for the NBDE, coming form the dean or the registar. YOU don't even need to have your G.P.A. evaluated prior to to application to an american dental school.

Are you serious?? awe!! I was just following the guidelines from the ADA website for international dentists. Whoops! well, what's done is done. LOL! The ECE report says that I am still currently in dental school and that my GPA is up to the year of where i am currently at. I dont think that it's a problem, the only thing that sucks is that I had to pay for it. LOL. anways, thanx for looking out. I should have asked about that beforehand. thanx again. I appreciate it.

ps. Isn't dental school a graduate program?

Once upon a time there was a bunch of tiny frogs.... who arranged a running competition.

The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower.

A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants....

The race began....

Honestly,no one in crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower.

You heard statements such as:

"Oh, WAY too difficult!!"

"They will NEVER make it to the top."

or:

"Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!"

The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one....
Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher....

The crowd continued to yell, "It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!"

More tiny frogs got tired and gave up....

But ONE continued higher and higher and higher....

This one wouldn't give up!

At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top!

THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it?

A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal?

It turned out....

That the winner was DEAF!!!!

And above all:

Be DEAF when people tell YOU that you cannot fulfill your dreams!

God and I can do this!

Hi,
you are most welcomeand dont be disheartened, and dont worry about the scores that very few people who posttheir scores write their attempt number and we get worried hat everybody is getting high scores, everybody goesthrough this trust me on this only after a 85 there is a 90.apply to all the schoolspossible there are people who got in with 85.

Yup, I was planning on doing that if I had encountered problems with my school that would have delayed my graduation last October....Uhm yeah I guess its a graduate program if you graduated with a Bachelors/Masters degree that can be credited to get into a dental school. But since you are still in dental school, then you're still an undergraduate of the college of Dentistry...uhm, at least that’s how I look at it. I think 85 is a good score, the only ones I think having problems getting in advance standing programs are those nationalities with a large population applying to get in….Got to keep the balance in check, I say hehehe

Botulism, I don't know If I like your nick 😉 but let me tell you something, I really like the frog story and I truly believe in it.
Dr. Ace, believe in yourself and don't let ANYONE tell you that You Can't Do It, sometimes being deaf is not the best thing cause listening to certain comments will give you more motivation to show the world that you can do it.
I'm going to tell you this as a "real world" person, I got 81 on my test, is not a high score, but I'm going to take the nbde 2 to make it up, and for those people who think that it doesn't help, It does! unfurtunately I can't make 98 on my test due to the fact that I'm married, have a kid, and a job but I feel proud because I did everything I could for 4 months and I couldn't even spend too much time with my daughter cause I had to study. Big sacrifices....
This is something that you might want to read, I have two friends that graduated with me and both applied to NYU with 84 and 85 scores, and BOTH got accepted right away, and I bet your GPA is higher that theirs. So, do me a favor, apply and dont give up, maybe taking the part 2 will help you, you're goning to have to take eventually. Let me know what you're going to do, and If you believe in God, let him do it!!!

Of course i believe in Him, if it wasnt for Him, i wouldnt be were i am at now. 👍 Thanx for the support and yes i think i am going to go for my part II. I dont think that it is more difficult than part I cuz its concentrating on clinical and dental aspects such as endo, perio, operat. etc. I feel way more confident in these areas. 😀 anyways, so are you going to go for your part II also? you wouldnt happen to have any released papers for part II, do you? maybe we can help each other out. thanx again.

Hi Dr Ace,
I have some of my friend who were accepted at NYU 3 year back with score of 78 and 79% NBDE-1 and no Part-2 , with GPA of 3.15 , so looking at that you are at steady platform 👎 to the people who think that way.Think +.:luck:

hi dr.ace,i am new to this post...even my score was 85%..despite of my hard work,i couldn't score the mythical 90's.i gave my xam on dec29th and i got my score report after a long time..i am still in dilema as to retake the part1 or do my part2..i want to apply for california schools..i am not understanding whether they accept me with this score in part1 even after i write my part2!!i have a gpa of3.4..with one1/2yrs of work experience in india...i really want some suggestions regarding this so that i can start preparing...

Why americans are so jealous??? instead of tried to humiliate the foreign students or practitioners give them a hand.
International students has to deal with many barriers, not only the language
barrier... and they still got what they want.

I know a lot of foreign dentist who came here to USA and has passed the Boards. They went to the University for 2 years and BANG !! they got their license.

What do you think guys about a DOUBLE DENTIST ???

I'm a dentist and I got my degree when I was 23 years old then I made a postgrade in Fixed Prosthodontics. I left my country and I came to USA with nothing else than hope. I took the Dental Hygiene Boards and now I am an RDH and I am studying for the new 2007 Dental Boards to get my license #.

Is not easy to be alone inside an strange country, you have to work hard to produce money and you have to study at the same time to catch what you are chasing. I'm still learning english, but I keep going and I know I'm going to get my license one day for the second time.

I never will be able to understand why they make our live so difficult, why they put so many obstacules on when everyone knows that latin dentists including the ones that are fresh out of school are better doctors and has more practice than US dentists.
I used to work as a dental asssistant and I can tell you that the dental practice here is depressing. I saw young and old dentist doing things that I can't believe yet. It is very difficult to find a good dentist who knows what's doing here in USA.

Please be real and stop putting obstacules on us and let us fix all the iatrogenic works that you healthkillers are doing.

God bless all foreign students who are trying to get their license to help the USA patients.

And a little note to the ADA and Board of Dentistry:

Please think about an Inspection Program or something like that if you really care about the patients.
It doesn't take much to assign dental inspectors that work checking patient charts ramdomly office by office to find all these "Dentists" that are doing disaster and malpractice. Is not difficult to find out if some dentist is doing wrong, you just need to take 2 or 3 charts from the file cabinet and look at the x-rays.
Apparently the board doesn't care about those things and they just play like they are blind. Come on guys open your eyes and do something about it.
Is not all about money ! Dentists here just think about money and they don't care about their patients or the quality of the work.

I will try to change that after I get my license.

See you in another life...

~SilverKing~
