Hi all...I'm taking Step 3 in about a month and will likely attempt the NBME self assessment exam in the next couple weeks. I'm curious about two things. First, does the Step 3 self assessment contain any Clinical Case Scenarios (CCS)? Second, how does performance on the self assessment exam correlate to your actual Step 3 score.

Thanks in advance.

Nope... it does not have any CCS cases. Also, there's no solid correlation between the assessment score and the real exam. Anyhow, if you get 400 or more in the NBME assessment test, you should pass comfortably.

Good luck!

that makes no sense. If there's no correlation, how can you say 400 or above = passing with comfort?
Is there no correlation just based on the fact that the nbme has no ccs component, or are you saying the real exam quetions/concepts are different, or non of the above?

Just took the NBME self assessment today.

Definitely no CCS component to the assessment. It's just 5 blocks with 36 questions per block in 45 mins.

@ AYANJOE..........

NBME score of 400 = comfortable pass, really? Is this from word of mouth or what?

I've got ~20 days til my exam and I scored a 420.

J10sstar, did you think nbme was like u.world?
what are u using to study?
good luck on ur exam👍

I thought the concepts from UW were definitely seen throughout the NBME exam. Like any NBME/USMLE exam, there were questions that you just can't study for. Lots of images and 2-3 step questions on the NBME exam. No audio clips nor was there a single EKG which was a shocker. There were several questions per block that were gimmies.

Study materials: MTB, UW, UW CCS, UW Assessment, and NBME Assessment

Regarding your 420, what did your performance evaluation estimate your Step 3 score to be?

NBME assessment results just told me my score was a 420, then it showed the graph with the bars indicating how you did in the different subjects tested.
It didn't give me a score correlation like UWA did.

After reading lot of people's experiences on www.usmleforum.com, a good majority of the people scored around 400 on the NBME, went ahead and took the exam.

it doesnt give u an approximation for your score like it did for step 1 or 2, that sux.

There's no published correlation tables as with step 1 or step 2 ck. If you search over this forum and other places, you will find that most people who get an NBME score >400 usually pass the exam... Anyhow, for a given score (let's say 450) you will find real exam scores all over the place ranging from low eighties to high nineties... Hope this helps...

I studied for 3 days....took the practice form. Made a 730.

Step 3 was no joke though. Harder than I thought. Pretty sure I passed but will not get the same domination as step1 or 2.

CCS- you MUST buy USMLE World cases and practice with their software. If I didn't do this I would have tanked the clock managment piece. Spend the $100 or whatever and buy this. You will thank yourself after the test!!!👍👍
