Hi All:
Is there anyone here that is planning to take the North Carolina Boards in 2008. I have heard that it is a tough one but have not found what to expect. It is a 3 day test, similar to the FL board as I understand and there is a written, clinical, and law. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I took the NC Boards in Feb. 1998, while completing my residency. Back then it was one day (about 5 hours). It consisted of 5 stations. 2 stations were clinical skills, where they assessed your competency in performing procedures, (gonio, bio, etc). The other 3 stations were oral evaluations. There were 3 docs at each oral station, and they had cases prepared that they asked you questions on. Each doc obviously had prepared questions, but they would ask you questions on the fly as well. There was no written exam.

It was rigorous, so you need to know your stuff, but they also assessed how well you performed under pressure.

If you have any questions, I would be glad to try and answer them, but it looks like the format has changed somewhat.🙂

I took NC boards a couple years ago. Its pretty much what Rvan said, except I had 1 clinical station and 4 oral stations. The clinical station very easy compared to the others. I believe there may have been scleral depression, but no injections or FAs. I didn't have any FA interpretations on my oral stations either, but I assume that's fair game if they wanted to ask.
