Hello!

For anyone who has interviewed at NECO (in the past or this admission cycle), I would appreciate if anyone can give me some advice if my interview is a good sign or a bad sign for acceptance 😕

Essentially, after asking me "why optom" the interviewer then asked me if I had any questions about the program, then what I was looking for in an optometric education/why NECO, then asked if I had more questions about the program (lol). We kind of alternated between the interviewer asking a question to me and me asking a question about the program to the interviewer (but I felt like there was more emphasis on the latter).

Thanks for your advice! I'm just confused since the format of this interview was very different from my other interview.

Sorry that I can't help because I have my interview coming up but can you tell me how the vibe of the interview was, if they were asking difficult questions and what I should expect on the day of the interview?

But back to your question, I have friends that are attending NECO and their in-person interview was pretty lax and their experience was similar to yours, they were the ones spending the majority of the time asking questions. Which is good, your application doesn't have any red flags and they simply want to gauge how interested you are in the school. I wouldn't be worried, best of luck!

Hey! Thanks for the feedback!

The vibe was pretty relaxed since it was on zoom haha. We did go and take turns telling the pres of NECO (& consequently the other applicants interviewing on that day as well) which was not bad at all (he's a very kind guy). They did not ask any difficult questions like ""diff b/w the 3 Os" or "what does it mean when optom is a legislated profession".

If you didn't say anything that was way out there and your stats are okay and attractive physically and personality wise and had good interpersonal skills (and the interviewer was of the opposite sex) I would say your odds are good. 90% of people that get interviewed, the decision is made within the first 3 minutes.

I know people don't want to hear this ,but I've had many colleagues who were part of admissions committees or who worked for opto schools and they have mentioned or noted the above observed in their respective opto schools.

Can you elaborate on the pres of NECO part? What did he ask?

The question he asked our interview group was "why optometry?" and we had to answer to him and essentially everyone else in the call.

How long did it take for them to get back to you about a decision after your interview?
