Which one would you rather go to and why?
I like both schools but NECO is $50,000+ more expensive over the 4 years I think because of the higher tuition...
Both have their strengths and both are nice locations.
I think I like Western and ICO too but don't know much about either one.

SUNY over NECO.

Both are good schools. Take what you will from NECO's recent NBEO fiasco. Living in NYC and saving 50k at the same time? "Winning" as Charlie Sheen would say (if the figure you quoted is true).

Just look at the GPA's / OAT's why do you think SUNY is harder to get into? Simple supply and demand.

I may be slightly biased since I'm still "waitlisted" at SUNY. Out of all the schools I interviewed at, I felt most comfortable at NECO. I really liked the city of Boston, and the people at the school seemed to really emphasize the volunteer/humanitarian type of work that they do, which is something I'm into. Unfortunately, the school and the city were just too expensive for me.

SUNY is right in the heart of Manhattan which I thought was great, and I like the fact that the clinic is all in one building. From my brief experience there, the people seemed a little cold (though that could have been because they scheduled my interview during midterms..). The interview seemed more like an interrogation than anything.

All that being said, cost is a huge factor, and SUNY definitely has NECO beat there. Though I enjoyed my visit to NECO much more, if I'd gotten into SUNY there's a decent chance I would've chosen it over NECO simply because of the cost.

Don't know if my rambling means anything, but just my two cents. Good luck on the decision!

yeah i mean $50000 is like 33% of the total cost to go to SUNY... i like boston more but do i like it 50k more....

SUNY is cheaper, is located in a great city, has a good reputation. why not?

SUNY's current president is a NECO graduate and former NECO faculty, so whichever you choose you're going to be getting a decent education.

Personally I've had the opportunity to interview at both. From talking with the faculty it seems the overall experience of the schools is almost opposite. NECO is like a family that is going in the same direction and everyone is extremely helpful. SUNY is a very directed program the faculty are exceptional and extremely knowledgeable. The students there seem to be nice but are more focused on their own studies.

I can't comment on individual programs because of the stats of the entering populations. SUNY draws more competition because it offers instate tuition to any US citizen after 1st year. Where as NECO is a private college so cost is more of a factor. So at the end of the day SUNY has its pick at the more competitive candidates and generally you would expect these students to do well regardless of where they went.

I feel NECO is a school that gives you good opportunities and maybe more lasting relationships that might lead to a wider network later on. Whereas SUNY you have to be proactive for these things to happen.

For me as an international student, SUNY's main benefit doesn't apply and I really don't feel there is much difference than with NECO. The type of person you are and what you're interested in and how you want your graduate studies to be would probably lead you to the right school.

If you're really unsure, write things down you are interested in and be proactive and ask the faculty (of both schools). I can tell you they are more than willing to tell you about their programs. Dr. Ida Chung could explain to you all that SUNY has to offer. NECO, depends on which areas you might be interested in.
