  1. Pre-Health (Field Undecided)

I am doing a paper on the life of a med pre med or med student, and I am supposed to do a few interviews. I am also thinking about going into the medical field myself, so I would really appreciate if I could get some responses 🙂

1. How is the reality of being a medical student different from how it is potrayed on TV and in the media?
2. Is being in med school what you thought it would be like? Is it what you expected? Are you dissapointed? Suprised?
3. What is your stress level like? What do you do to deal with it?
4. How much studying would you say you do in a day? what is the workload like?
5. Do you have time for relationships?
6. Do you go out with your friends? Do you go to parties? How often?
7. Why did you choose to go into the medical field?
8. What do hate/love about it?
9. What type of hobbies are you involved in?

You might want to ask to have this moved to the pre-allo forum or something since they get more views over there than the non-trad forum. This forum is mostly non-tradational students, students who didn't go straight from college into med school, you might get very different responses to the questions you're asking. Also, are you supposed to do real life interviews? You can't guarantee anyone on here is who they say they are, or even in medical school.... just a thought.

How is it similar? Actually I'm not aware of med students in the media. Probably because it'd be boring. We just study. And each of us crams in whatever else they want out of life on the side.

It's harder than I thought. But gets easier. Like high altitude adaptation. It was not as clinically focused as I would've thought. The first year was a lot of background stuff I was hoping I was done with in undergrad. I was disappointed. The same way people who came to California were in 1851 looking for gold. Now. Expectations adapted. It's fine. So I'm happy with my lot.

3. What is your stress level like? What do you do to deal with it?

It can be as stressful as you want it to be. Many of us put on 30 lbs and go south physically for a seemingly permanent basis. Despite being in our 20's. Nobody in the upper offices seems willing to look at this spectacle. 20 somethings, being charged with caring for the health of others get so precipitously unhealthy, in such a short period of time. Instead. They just hand out gold stars to the top scorers. Lord of flies. Except on a nerdy island.

I exercise. Rigorously. Not this 20 minutes of nonsense you see being bandied about by these ministers of unhealth. And often.

And I develop another sense for when I am tensing up. And I physically, sometimes manifested verbally on sdn, vomit it up out of repulsion. And I try to get right again. It's continuous. Not and excursion. But a war. Of salvation. For the self.

4. How much studying would you say you do in a day? what is the workload like?

8 hours or so. I am easily distracted by my own interests so. It's hard for me to get a sense of how long I actually am hitting my school material.

5. Do you have time for relationships?

yes. although new ones would be more difficult.

6. Do you go out with your friends? Do you go to parties? How often?

I'm 38. And retired from that life.

7. Why did you choose to go into the medical field?

There's no other way i could make a good living and be satisfied. I could be either satisfied. Or make a good living but not both. In this lifetime.

8. What do hate/love about it?

I hate the culture of making doctors. Not all of it. But a lot of it.

9. What type of hobbies are you involved in?

8 personal questions is my max.
