Need advice about my chances of acceptance. Please reply!

I am in the process of applying to several schools and I wondered what people thought of my chances. I am an undergrad at Washington University in St. Louis. 3.65 science 3.68 overall gpa. 38R mcat. I had a 3.1 after my freshman year but since I have made a 3.95 to bring it up. I have done research in a clinical setting as well as in a microbiology lab. I have an EMT liscence and two years experiance as a phlebotomist. I have a double major in Bio and History and am co president of the history honor society. I participate in a various other extracurriculars. I'm applying to Harvard, Washu, Stanford, Cornell, Columbia, Mt. Sinai, NYU, BU, Tufts, USC, Emory, George Washington, UT Southwestern (I'm from Texas), Northwestern, UT Houston, UT San Antonio, and Texas A&M. Anywhoo let me know what my chances are.

Why ask folks who are in the same place as you and typically have lower stats? But if you feel like you really need the ego boost, more power to you. It's a free country I guess...

Using the premed to med calculator which finds out exactly within 1% your chances of getting accepted, it appears you have a 12.45% chance of getting in. Good luck.

This is no doubt a butt-slap-seeking post. To answer it though: assuming a good personal statement and interview performance (you should certainly have enough material to come up with something compelling from the EMT and research activity), you have very good prospects of getting admitted to at least one of {Harvard, WashuU, Stanford, Cornell, Columbia}. Although your cumulative gpa is a bit below their matriculant average, the fact that it is from a good undergraduate school and is associated with a strong upward trend and exemplary MCAT should certainly balance it out. For some of the schools on your list, your stats may actually be a little too high and they will not seriously think you will attend as a result.

You might consider adding a few more top-20 schools just to stay safe. It's better to have too many interview offers and have to turn some down, then to not have enough.

You have a 100% chance of getting in to one of the texas schools as a state resident with that application. You must know that. You'll also most likely get into some of the other schools.

Why no Baylor as a texas resident?

This post exhibited at least hints of the kind of social difficulties which might come out in an interview. So you've got great numbers, but they may be able to see past that, note you're a wanker, and not accept you because of that.

Please note that I just had a procedure and I'm coming down off a dose of demerol. I still think it's accurate, but my wife says it's mean.

Ok Ok. I'm sorry. I really wasn't trying to brag although i can see how it came off that way. I just read some horror stories about ppl with good stats not getting in so I freaked out. Thanks for the encouragement.

The horror stories are probably because they don't have good ECs (which you do) or come off as socially maladjusted.

You will probably get into 3/4 of those schools based on just numbers. You might have a problem at WashU. They have been deemed "number ******" here on SDN, and your GPA is slightly below their average.

Decent GPA, an MCAT most people on this board would die to have, lot of clinical experience, research (umm...what haven't you done by the way?). Oh great, an upward trend in GPA. Another big plus when you are reviewed by the committee.

If this is a psych out thread, then good luck. These types of threads are started like 2-3 times a day, and they are all the same.

If you are seriously ignorant about the criteria for admission at those schools, spend the $30 and buy an MSAR for your answers.

One thing I heard from my pre med advisor (I am sure this is true) is that the admission committee people have been doing this such a long time that they can instantly detect who really wants to be a doctor and who is just doing it for some other reasons.

I think it is ultimately like dating. Sure it is really great if you are good looking and have a good job then your chances of dating a great person increases dramatically. But if you are an arrogant a$$hole, then people will eventually see through that.

For example, would you date Donald Trump? ( assuming that you are a girl)

I could be wrong though, I do not have much dating experience.
