hey guys
alright well it looks like i did not get in this year... i know theres been many threads about this and i have read several but i dont know what to do in my situation... MASTERS or another regular YEAR of courses at my university...

which one do majority of schools prefer?... which one will help my future chances more?

I suppose if i do another year my GPA may only go up like ~0.03 or something
but heres my problem... I am Canadian and some dental schools here take your best two years (like Western) which is motivation to do another year and NOT masters... but at the same time Canada chances are small (but i do want to try and do not want to go on knowing i didnt even give it a shot)... doing this will prob not increase my cGPA enough for U.S. so i may be better off putting a year towards a 1 year masters...!?! which one to go for... i really dont know!

if i do a year, do schools look @ it as a SEPERATE GPA or is that only for masters?

well any input or experiences would be appreciated... i need to figure this out so i can apply for my masters if need be!

my cGPA was 3.43

Thank you

I can't really comment on the canadian schools...since I'm not canadian; however, if you were to apply to american schools, I would consider taking a Masters.

Taking extra classes would be futile as an undergrad because your GPA would only go up by .03. That being said, if you get a masters your GPA will still only increase by .03; HOWEVER, there will be another slot that says "Masters 4.0" which screams out academic excellence. Your GPA and DAT are not bad at all. Many private schools will give you a shot if you apply broadly, and hey- the cycle isn't over. So don't lose hope yet.

P.S. I had around the same grades as you, and I got 6 private school interviews. They say private universities don't look at citizenship, so I would think you have a great chance there.

If you want to get into Western, do a 1 year of undergraduate work and make sure you kill that year (assuming you already have another stellar year of undergrad), and then hopefully you'll have 2 years at 90%+.

I think your GPA is fine for a few interviews in the USA, but if you want to make a good use of your time for next year, don't do a 5th year. If you have the money to shell out, do a 1-year Master's in the states. They'll prepare you really well for dental school, and assuming you do well, will give you a great chance of getting in. At least this way you'll have a master's under your belt

I'm not familiar with Canadian dental schools, but your chances of getting into a US private dental school are really good looking at your GPA and DAT scores. I think you should take a 5th year of classes at your own pace, do really well and retake the DAT for an even better score if you don't get in this round. I would only recommend a 1 year masters program to someone who doesn't have very good stats, and are looking for a record enhancer.
