ok first off, ive been planning to write this post for a couple weeks, but never got around to it. i read the threads on here all i can, and get what information i can out of them. But I have a few other questions, personal questions i would like answered by you guys if you have the time. thanks!

im just about to graduate high school, and just got my acceptance letter to the local cc. the only reason im going to a cc is because of the price and i can still live at home. Also I would like to focus on getting good grades and up my college gpa before going to a 4 year such as uk or maybe western kentucky. I am thinking of getting all the pre reqs i can at the cc, and then taking stuff like organic at the 4 year. i dont know if ill be going to the community college next year or not, just depends on how well i do this year. at the very least i would like a 3.5 which is well within the realm of possibility for me. i plan on taking the ptcb and getting certified to become a technician and work in a local pharmacy for a year or two to gain some experience in the field. i have 2 questions for those who have went through this before me, or currently going through this.

1. does this sound like a good plan, by plan i mean transferring to a 4 year after getting all the pre reqs i can at the community college, and will the fact i took them at a community college significantly affect my chances of getting into grad school? (and as far as grad schools are concerned, id like to go to uk or sullivan, since i live in ky) uk would of course be the first choice, and then sullivan. if i applied to sullivan it would of course depend on whether they become accredited or not.
2. also, what classes should i take this first semester of college? im thinking taking general chem and eng 101 for sure.. but i am unsure of what else i should take. im probably shooting for 15 semester hours, maybe a bit more.
3. i know i have what it takes to do this, but would just like to know what others think. i have a 3.4 in high school. i realize that its not really an outstanding gpa, but throughout my senior year i have realized the importance of doing well in school, i know i am capable of better, i could have easily got a 3.75. i think what it was is that i had one of those rebellious, dont care teen years my junior that brought me down. i had a 3.75 freshman year, 3.71 sophomore year, 2.75 junior year, and a 3.5 this year. im taking good classes this year, like chem II and bio II and done pretty well in those. (got a high b in both, if i had studied, i believe it would have been an a, but anyway...) and also, i havent taken the act since the end of my sophomore year in which i scored a composite 22. again, i know not a great score but it was 2 years ago, and im sure i would do much better now. i never retook it because i knew that i was going to the cc. sorry for the long read, but all in all in your honest opinion, do you think i have the stuff to become a pharmacist?

any advice or input would be much appreciated!!

thanks, michael

To answer your last question, yes I absolutely do think that you are pharmacy school material: you are well aware of your goals and know the required steps that are needed to get there. I think your plan sounds fine. There have been numerous debates on these forums regarding CC/Universities and colleges, and I think that the general consensus is that taking your pre-reqs at a CC is fine, as long as you do well. Be sure to maintain as high a GPA as you can, especially in the beginning because it's really hard to raise it later on in your college career (from previous experience 🙂 ).
For your first semester I would try for maybe, Bio I, Calc I, English, and a history course or something of that sort. You want to get into the feel of college before really immersing yourself in the difficult courses.
Good job on getting a head start and let us know if you have more questions 🙂

It's obvious you've given this a lot of thought and it sounds like a good plan to me. As long as you do well in your pre-reqs there won't be any negative consequences for taking them at a CC.
As for first semester classes, I would look at the pre-req for the schools you are planning on applying to (Chem I, Comp I, Cal I and a social science probably).
Getting a job at a pharmacy now is also a wise decision.
Best of luck to you.

i appreciate the advice guys. does anyone else have any other comments?

Limit your thread questions to just one - it makes it easier for others to reply - and it aids you in your search efforts prior to posting.

Nice job on researching prior to posting - It is much appreciated - I agree with the above comments. It is a long road both to get to pharmacy school, and then completing it once you are there...
