need advice for obgyn elective

Hi, I'll have an obgyn elective which I depend on for strong letters of recommendation. To all those who've been there, what r ur advice & tips? I mean how am I going 2 be evaluated & what are the common mistakes I should avoid? Ur exp will help alot. Thanks & GL.

Thanx ozzidoc I should've tried the search before. I guess I'm worried b/c I've heard the residents there aren't so nice (they can be mean & I don't know what else).I just dont know how to interact with such personalities. Hope I'll be able to be myself in such enviroment.

If you are truly interested, that will shine through and I think your residents will respect and appreciate that, if they're half way decent people. Just do a little reading and offer whatever help you can, it's the same as any rotation, so don't sweat it.

Don't take criticism personally even if it's delivered in a less than gentle manner. There is often a nugget of constructive criticism you can use. Sometimes you just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and run into someone that is tired/stressed. Don't try to make excuses a "I'm sorry, it won't happen again" will generally do to diffuse most of those situations.
Figure out ways to make your resident's and attendings' life easier. Fill out forms for them to sign, look up labs and imaging studies as soon as they come in and keep them informed etc. Read Uptodate and the ACOG bulletins related to your patients conditions they are the best condensed sources of clinical information.
Finally just relax 🙂

Hi, brickhouse & crisisinnocent. I've just read ur replies. Today is the 3rd day of the observeship. Im doing OB now. It hasn't been that bad so far. Thank u for the advice (I'll read ur replies whenever I feel 😡). Im going to study now. Wish u the best in ur coming internships too.😳

And whatever you do, skim the patient's H&P in the holding room or even the OR prior to the case. It sucks to say "no, I don't know" when the resident or attending asks you something about the patient in the middle of the case.
