Hey all,

Just wondering if I could get a bit of advice from some of you rad people out there. I'm a third-year student at a state school (a rather primary-care oriented curriculum) who is becoming increasingly interested in setting sail for those golden shores of radiology (probably in large part due to the aforementioned PC-heavy emphasis).

The reasons for my interest are many but basically boil down to the fact that I really enjoy the intellectual nature of radiology and find that I rather abhor the micromanagement of patient's lives (medicine) and am a bit of a klutz (surgery). The lifestyle of radiology (much more so than the salaries) is also attractive.

So here's the deal - my school does not have AOA. I'm somewhere in the top 10% of the class in terms of test grades (but we have no school rank, so I'm not sure where I am exactly) and scored a 265 on Step 1. My clerkship evals will probably be pretty good but not stellar.

My question is what can I do during my clerkship and sub-I years to keep the option of radiology open to me. Additionally, I would prefer an academic program over a purely community based one and would like to get into a respected program that might open doors. Any advice from some of y'all on the other side?

Are you for real?? Just apply and you will match with that step score.

You concerns are not warranted.

Actually, let me correct you.....Anesthesia rules!!!!

Let's agree that they each have their own good qualities. Radrules and I prefer radiology and you prefer anesthesiology.

Voxel just stated diplomatically what I would have in a very different way. In any case, get back to your gas passing and reading the paper.

Voxel, I appreciate your delicate staement. ince you were diplomatic I will agree with your comment. Both great fields to work in.

RADRULES...as for you, get back to your dark cage. Who said you could come out?

Good luck guys!!!

see guys...everything was cool until Dr. Cuts opened his big mouth....

Dr. Cuts, consider yourself lucky for matching into rads, I followed you last year during the match with all your posts, while you were crapping your pants. So don't get too cocky boy, you are still stuck in Shrevport for four years. I'd rather die...

GAS is number one, RADS distant second because we are actually doctors, ie WE SEE PATIENTS!!!! If you want to be stuck in a dark room all day, great because you probably don't have the social skills to deal with patients anyway. PLus, gasdocs are adored by their patients, especially women in Labor. So we get more credit than you guys stuck in the cave.

Radiology Rules baby!!!!

You Anesthesia folks need to pipe down a little and just enjoy the last few months of your medical school (I know I am enjoying every bit of my 4th year).

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Nothing is more entertaining than hearing a gas talk about how they are real "doctors" compared to rads. What a f*cking joke! Gas are nothing more than surgeon's bitches.... table up, table down... you better get used to it bitch! HAHAHAHA!!!

Most people who apply to gas know they don't have a shot at rads... the true pinnacle of medicine.

As I sit here ON CALL, unfortunately on a Halloween that just happens to fall on a gloriously warm Friday night, I curse myself for having read the voluminous drivel that RADRULES spews forth....

Dude, you need to knock off the pissing contest about Rads vs. Gas vs. everything else. Of course, Rads is the pinnacle of medicine. How could I have forgotten? 🙄 Anywayz...

The other thing that shouldn't be forgotten (in light of the fact that u are an upper level rads resident) is that Rads was godawful easy to get into about 4-5 years ago when you were applying, leaving it primarily the domain of bottom of the barrel american grads and FMGs. Curiously enough, you always seem to neglect to mention that fact when engaging in your pissing contests.

Lets try to keep it civil in here, ladies and gents, and stay on the topic of the thread without resorting to (unoriginal) personal attacks. 🙂

Guess what Einstein, even when rads was an easier match, the top programs were still full of top AOA students just like me. Just like gas right now, which everyone knows is an easy match, but the MGH and Duke type programs are full of top candidates.

I was just responding to what I deemed a really low blow about CUTS and his background and residency. I have kept up with his posts and CUTS seems like a good guy who maybe didn't apply himself earlier in life but has since dedicated himself to radiology and will be an excellent member of our wonderful profession.

So, please go back to your rightful place as the sugeon's bitch and grab your ankles. Ohh yeah... if you don't like me or my posts then don't read them, especially on the radiology board.

Your language and cursing are pathetic. you are ignorant and obviously low class. what kind of DO are you speaking with such foul language. go get some anger managemnt and try not to become a future wife beater (assuming you aren't one already).

you disgrace the field of radiology. all you care about is MONEY. disgusting. plus, you matched in RADS when it sucked 5 years ago, so you must have been bottom of the barrel. people at the bottom are always at the bottom, change your attitude or get out of medicine, we don't need people like you. later ghetto fab!!

That is the best you can do? Wow, you are an idiot.

dr cuts i am sorry to hear you are in shreveport. at least monroe and dallas are nearby. watch for the falling bullets.

Regarding the 30 y.o. wannabe-harda$$ rads resident,

I think he just needs to get laid. 😛

little rock? my current roomie is about to move there. hilarious! she is from wisconsin and is majorly flipping out. i thought she was going to die when she went with me to monroe-that is a very snooty and up-ity city. i am really scaring her about little rock.😀
