Hey all,
Just wondering if I could get a bit of advice from some of you rad people out there. I'm a third-year student at a state school (a rather primary-care oriented curriculum) who is becoming increasingly interested in setting sail for those golden shores of radiology (probably in large part due to the aforementioned PC-heavy emphasis).
The reasons for my interest are many but basically boil down to the fact that I really enjoy the intellectual nature of radiology and find that I rather abhor the micromanagement of patient's lives (medicine) and am a bit of a klutz (surgery). The lifestyle of radiology (much more so than the salaries) is also attractive.
So here's the deal - my school does not have AOA. I'm somewhere in the top 10% of the class in terms of test grades (but we have no school rank, so I'm not sure where I am exactly) and scored a 265 on Step 1. My clerkship evals will probably be pretty good but not stellar.
My question is what can I do during my clerkship and sub-I years to keep the option of radiology open to me. Additionally, I would prefer an academic program over a purely community based one and would like to get into a respected program that might open doors. Any advice from some of y'all on the other side?
