so i have just completed my sophomore year at a community college and will be starting at a university in the fall. I was a bio major at the CC but wasn't sure about what i wanted to do. I recently decided that i want to go into dentistry but i feel like i didnt take CC seriously and dont have the best grades. ive taken my general chem there and got a C the first semester and a B the next. Ive also taken 3 bio classes intro/botany/zoology and got a B/C/B and have only taken my first part to physics and got a B and plan to take the second part at the university, along with my Ochem.

Im just really worried that i dont have the best grades and wanted to know if it was still possible for my to raise my science gpa since its so low because of the two C's.. by taking any other science classes at the Uni? and plus i still have all my upper division to do...

4 classes of Cs and Bs need at least 5 classes of straight As to bring it up to 3.5. And after you get those 5 straight As, KEEP acing classes. Then apply. Perseverance!

do you mean 4 classes that include chemistry and bio??
i was reading about BCP gpa on these forums and im curious to know what upper division classes would fall under this category ??

You still have PLENTY of classes to take to bring up your GPA. Treat your studies seriously from now on.

Yeah you really gotta up those chem and bio grades. Retake bio or chem if you can as well. You need a 3.3BCP GPA to even be considered to be honest.

The upper level bio and chem classes might just factor into sci GPA overall. I'm not entirely positive. AADSAS would want to see what type of classes they are.

so it is still possible as-long i try my best to get A's in the next 4-5 chem/bio classes i take

You should try your best to get A's in every class you take with lots of emphasis on ALL your science classes.😎

would it be better that i apply for dental school after my senior yr is complete because that way i get more time to raise my gpa? and this might me a stupid question but what is the deal with postbac that people do after they graduate? is that a one yr program that allows you to raise your gpa?

Yes, there are many-search forums and you'll see. BTW, I would wait and see how your grades go-take the prereqs early so u have the option to take the DAT. Also, work on your overall application-ie volunteer work alongside your grades

i want to take my DAT summer of junior yr but im just scared that my gpa wont be as high on the application..and if i take my DAT junior yr would that score still be valid untill i do my application the following yr, end of senior yr?

DAT scores are good for 3 years

depends on the school.... most schools require the DAT be 2-3 years old.... Some (like U of Mich) are okay up to 4 years

I don't know all of your grades and I'm not gonna do the math, because it's not entirely necessary. If you want to know, open up an excel spreadsheet-it's not that hard. Anyway, don't stress about your GPA COULD be; instead, focus on acing your classes. If I'm not mistaken, you don't have that many credits to drag down your GPA...so you're fine.
