Hey all,
I'm taking a year or two off before applying to PT school (just graduated undergrad last weekend) and trying to find a job as a PT tech for the experience.

I am wondering though, is this the type of job where they usually do most of their hiring at the beginning of the summer (right around now)? My situation is that I am getting married this coming saturday, and will be on honeymoon the following week. I have been looking around and found a few places that are hiring in the area, or at least taking applications (only like 2 or 3 so far). How important is it for me to be applying right now? Specifically, what are the chances Ill still be able to find a position somewhere quickly if I wait until the beginning of June to really start searching?

I need to know this because I am trying to decide whether I should focus this week on searching for jobs or on getting the house we'll be living in ready to live in (for example, we don't have a bed yet). Things are so busy I only have time to focus on one, and I'm afraid the honeymoon week will kill my chances at finding a job because I wont be able to look, apply, or interview until the very end of May. Any advice?

I don't know about your area, but I know around here (NW) there is no "aide hiring season." Jobs open up all year long depending on availablity; although they seem to be more prevalent in mid-to-late summer because people are leaving to start their respective program.

One tip I can offer, if you are having trouble finding a job, is to volunteer (as much as you can) at a clinic to make connections with the staff. Also, make sure to talk with the aides where you are volunteering to make sure one of them will be leaving in the near future, else you could be wasting your time and you should go find another clinic to volunteer at. Then when the job opens you'll have a leg-up for the position. The last 4 aides at the clinic I work at have been hired in that way.

Yup, this is how I got my aide job. I volunteered at a nursing home for about... 6 months, eventually found my way to the PT clinic, and then got offered a job there because someone was going on vacation, they needed someone to cover for them! (I guess it sped the process up quite a bit since I had CNA training as well) But nonetheless, start volunteering at a few clinics for a few hours a week to get your feet in!

Also, first post! 😀
