Hi,
I'm in a mess right now. So a few months ago I went to the ED and they took my urine and the UDS came back positive. It's part of my medical record now but not part of any public record. Now I'm currently applying for a temporarily training license and one of the question asks whether I had a positive screening test in the past 2 years. Am I screwed? I've never had any DUI, any misdemeanor, or anything on my record. Even my pre-employment UDS came back negative. I really need help on what to do next. Obviously I'm not going to lie on my licensing application. So do I talk to my PD, the hospital HR, the medical board, or whom? I really don't know what to do and so afraid that this will be a career ender for me. If anyone has any advice or experience, please help me.
Context matters here.
You went to the ED for what and your UDS came back positive for what? What were the consequences of that screen? What exactly does the question on the license application say?
For example, if you were forcefully taken by the police for acute mania and your UDS came back positive for cocaine to explain your state and you now have a legal record - well yeah, you need to be up front with the licensing board and you're likely in deep doodoo (and likely to, at best, be required to join your states physician monitoring program).
If you came back positive on a pre-employment screen or a clerkship screen, this is also an issue.
If you went to the ED for undifferentiated abdominal pain and randomly peed positive for marijuana though? I probably wouldn't worry about it. They have no way of ever getting ahold of those records and it's not the least bit relevant to your training.
