Hi Everyone!
I have been looking around on this site for a couple of months now. I am 26 years old and decided at the end of last year I would like to make a career change. I have never know exactly what I wanted to do and for my whole life thought of a lot of career possibilities. I always could see myself doing many things, but nothing that would keep me driven.

Doctor never crossed my mind, until one day I knew that this is what I am going to devote my life to. I absolutely know this is where my passion and talents lie.

My problem is that I have a career already and in an unrelated field. I have a degree in Accounting and work in a business office.

My stats are my uGPA is 2.79. I know this is extremely low, but I need some type of guidance if any of you could offer.

I started volunteering at a hospital and am taking science classes at a community college due to scheduling conflicts. Also, I have no sGPA yet so I plan to get a 4.0 sGPA and stellar MCAT scores.

If I stay at my current unrelated job and continue the path I am on will this still be acceptable to get in?

Thank you all for you help and inspiration!🙂

It is definitely possible. Maybe look into DO schools as some say they are a little more receptive to nontrads in your situation. But as long as you stick to your plan, you'll have a decent chance.

This sort of statement will send up red flags around here...but also in the interview process. You need to have concrete reasons born out through tangible personal experience, and those reasons don't tend to happen over the course of one day. I assume you are taking literary license?

What will your overall GPA be at the end of this? Even with a 4.0 science gpa your overall will still matter, especially if you have Ds or lower. And some would argue that taking your prereqs at a CC will count against you, although there is debate about that. It won't help you, and you do already have a GPA problem.

And planning to get a 4.0 and a stellar MCAT is different from achieving them. Most people plan on offsetting their weaknesses, but until you actually get that GPA and get that MCAT it's all just talk.

In terms of concrete things, aside from the GPA and MCAT, you also need to consider your extracurriculars, meaning significant volunteering and clinical exposure. There is a lot of info around here on that, in terms of what successful applicants have done.

thank you both for the advice. I sure hope to raise lots of flags, and hope they will be victory ones 🙂 I know this is what I want after years of research and finding out who I am and what I could see myself doing with my entire life. I am asking for advice. I have already committed myself to this pursuit. I have started volunteering already. I am stating get the 4.0 and studying for the MCAT as well.
