This was my first year to apply and interview for pharmacy school. I ended up with two interviews and I only have one school left as my option. The school does not send out letters of decline, so I have no idea when all the seats will be filled (at this point if they aren't full they almost all are). I feel like I have lost all motivation to learn at this point. For the past two years (including both summer semesters of 2012) I have pushed myself and have made A's in every class. Now I feel like no matter how hard I try to study, I cannot make an A on my exams from my science-based classes. I always get 83, 85, and even right at 89 but never above 90 in my science classes. One class is challenging for me (O chem II) and one has been very straight forward (Genetics).

I don't know if its because I am losing hope on getting in this year, but I can't find a way to shake this off of me. My GPA is my strongest aspect of my application and I'm worried that a few B's may have enough effect to alter my strength completely. I was so excited about the idea of going to pharmacy school and becoming a pharmacist and now I just feel unexcited.

Can anyone give me advice on how to keep positive on finishing up this semester, regardless if I get into pharmacy school or not? I plan to reapply next year but I also have a backup career if that application cycle does not work as well. Thanks!

To garner some motivation, just realize that these grades are potentially very important. If you're not accepted and go a different career route for a while, who knows what you'll end up doing. There's a chance that you'll want to go to PA, med, vet, (try for pharmacy school again?) etc school in a few more years and will need those good grades this semester. Get a tutor if you think it'll help you pull off an A or solidify a B.

As for the school you're waiting on hearing back from, I've seen many people post that there's no harm in calling the school and checking on the status of your app. If you weren't accepted, they might give you pointers on how to strengthen your app. That info will not only help you increase your chances of getting into pharmacy school, but almost any grad program.

I agree! Call them to see what's up.

Do you mind if I ask what your backup career plan is? I'm working towards a BS in Biology and have added a minor in Secondary Education. I live in Nevada, and I've heard we're in dire need for science and math teachers- a position is guaranteed upon graduation. I've found that it's also a general GPA cushion.

I'll probably be with you next application cycle.
