basically I’m a non traditional student. I have a degree in bio but my marks were all over the place and so my average was a mid 70. as a result I went to do. A secondundergrad and thus far my aamc average for my current degree after 3 years is a 3.9. The only probleM is that my mcat is a 492 (yeah I know it’s low). I have over 8 years of research. 2 publishing’s. Co editor and senior editor of two medical books. Volunteered to teach exercise to low income adults with physical disabilities. I was philanthropy chair in my sorority. Ran my own food drives. Worked in cardiac rehab for 6 months. Am a personal trainer. Have taught computer literacy in Kenya. And that’s only some of my ECs.

I’m a Canadian student and basically I won’t get in here so I’m looking elsewhere. Right now my options are the Caribbean which honestly Worries me. Ireland. Australia and possibly the USA but there are so manyschools and I don’t know which ones you should or shouldn’t apply to and wherever or not I even stand a chance.

What do you guys think?

Also 10,000 students apply to these schools so my chances at a spot in USA is almost Zero

Your ECs sound good and your new GPA is stellar. Honestly speaking, the only thing that sounds like it's truly holding you back is your abysmal MCAT score. You're going to need to retake it, unfortunately, to realistically have a shot at a US MD/DO school if you want to go to the US. Whatever you do don't go to a Caribbean school. Going to a Caribbean school is not worth it and will cause you more harm than good.

I'm in a US MD program so I don't know much about the other countries you mentioned, I hope someone else can help you out there. You may be able to find some information by Googling the application process of those countries.

Thanks for your opinion. I think I can score a 500 this time cuz I took phys Biomech anatomy and research this year. When I took it last yr I hadn’t taken a science course in like 6 years and still improved my mcat by 6 points (old version)

What is your cumulative GPA with all of your lifetime coursework averaged in?

Also, I noticed you have taken the MCAT twice already, the third time should be your last, so make sure you postpone taking it until you are 100% ready. You should take several full length practice exams, make sure you're fresh on biochemistry, physics, general chemistry, etc. Take an intro psychology and sociology course if you haven't yet.

I know you have taken a lot of classes, but things like biomechanics don't tranlsate into good MCAT scores the same way general chemistry and biochem or genetics do, so make sure you have a strong understanding there and do lots of practice. If you are URM and can score 508+ you will be good for US MD. If you're ORM, you should aim for 510 plus.

I don't know too much about international students applying to US DO schools but if you've got a great history and EC's, then pulling a 504+ on the MCAT with a good GPA will probably get you in somewhere.

Thanks for your input. I took all my science prerequisites a long time back. I’m currently relearning all my content in sciences right now. Focusing on foundations. I have taken a lot of psychology and sociology classes in my new deheee. Just didn’t prep well for it. The passages I did were nothin like the real thing so I screwed up terribly. Learned to not use next step prep again lol

I think I can get a 504. I’m weak certain passage styles so I’m looking for advice for how to approach them

Your MCAT is lethal and you're in a red zone for failing out of med school and/or failing boards.
