Hi everyone! I need advice! I plan on applying to dental schools in the US in 2011 round. I applied last round but quite late with poor stats, but I hope to improve my DAT marks and apply EARLY this time. What are my chances this round if I do well on the DATs 20+??:xf:

Here are my stats:
- Chemical Engineering degree from University of Toronto in Canada
- Full year of research experience in department of Pharmacy at University of Toronto
- Shadowing experience with more than 5 dentists
- One additional year for prerequisites
- 2 years work experience as a project manager

On my last DAT which I did in Sept 2009, I got these scores:
PAT 21
QA 14
Reading 19
Bio 18
Gen Chem 19
Org chem 17
Total science 18
AA 17

My AADSAS gpa:
BCP: 3
Science: 2.93
Non Science: 3.38
Total: 3

I plan to do my next DAT end of May.

I just need to know whether I have a real chance if I get really good DAT marks. 🙂:xf:

It's all speculation without your DAT score. Your GPA is pretty low so you really need to kill the DAT. At this point, you really need to take your DAT SOON, and apply as soon as AADSAS opens up. Good luck.

You applied really late, with a 2.9 and a 17. Being late was a big no no. Getting at least a 22AA will help, but you will literally have to study 3 times longer and harder than you did before. 17 to a 22 is no easy task. Unless you do a post-bac and bring up that sGPA to at least a 3.0, I think many ADCOMs will be really hard pressed to invite you for an interview.

I know that sounded harsh but I think its really important that one manages their expectations. I think an additional year with a strong performance in a post-bac program (which gives you 2 things - upward trend and GPA boost) will help out tremendously. That along with something close to a 22AA and your thorough research experience will help make you to be a very strong candidate for dental school. Needless to say you will have to apply broadly and have your application in early. This is just one person's opinion but I think many people here will agree with me. Good luck on the upcoming cycle 👍

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am going to apply early this round and aiming for the 22+ scores. I am also looking into post bacc in US, however time is of essence for me so if I start a post bacc this fall, are dental schools even going to look at the post bacc marks for this round? or is a post bacc going to help me with the round after this one (2012 :scared:)?

I know at this point, DAT is the most important way I can boost my chances.
