Hello im new to this forum so any help would be appreciated. I'm a freshman in college at the moment and heading to my 3rd quarter. I've had a pretty bad start on my pharmacy career and would like some advice. As of now my 1st quarter I got a 2.0 in bio and 2.x (not finished yet) in my 2nd quarter. My other classes are okay I received a 3.2 in microecon, elective 4.0 and pass my english class (P/F class) however I dropped one of my other classes. Since I am only a freshman many say I am okay for now as long as I do better. I am about to buckle down and do well on my 3rd quarter, but it has been bugging me that if I were to retake 3 classes it would extend my graduation time. Is this a bad thing? Also, I am going into pharm but my adviser told me to get a BS in biology and that is what I am doing at the moment.

Main question here is that is it okay to retake classes to get a higher GPA even if it will take longer to graduate.

Thanks!

first of all, your nick really resembles mine if you look into this more deeply 😛

anyways, You really don't want to have bad science GPA on application. cGPA and sGPA are being weighted almost equally in my opinion. You need to retake those for Pharm/PA/Med/Dental school or wherever else for healthcare profession.

How in the world did you get a 2.0 in freshman bio? Did you show up for class/exams?

Retaking classes won't hurt you, but you should focus on retaking classes later and worry about getting A's now. Plus with PharmCAS they calculate your GPA with both the new and old grade... so nothing can be erased.

Schools don't really notice whether you went to school for 4 or 5 years. If you got a BS that is all that matters to them. I would reconsider at least for pharmacy if your struggling in undergrad, especially freshmen year assuming your giving it your full effort.

Use your time in undergrad to gauge your abilities and work on your time management. Pharmacy school will get you if you slack off and screw around :boom:
