Hi:

I am very interested in pathology and enjoyed my rotations in it. However, my last rotation was hematology and I got a bit intimidated by the amount of rote memorization and reading that was required of pathologists. I'm feeling a bit burned out (I'm a medicine intern at the moment) and wondering if I could manage the amount of reading and so forth required of pathologist. Now I've been offered a spot at a pretty amazing school but I'm worried about being able to really do a good job. Any thoughts or comments?

I have to say that it does require large amounts of self study and memorization. The good thing is much of it you will pick up just by being around. But, path does seem to require more study on more subjects than any other specialty and with molecular taking off more and more facts are being added to the pot. Sometimes it is overwhelming.
