  1. Pre-Medical
Hi, I have a very important question to ask. I am starting on the pre-med route, and I was wondering does the type of institution you go to, really matter? I ask this because I can't really afford to go to a private school, and my state school is really big. I am thinking of going to a descent size university that is not really known, but I can see myself going there. So my question is does the institution you attend for undergrad matter when applying to medical school?

Thanks

No it doesn't. Go wherever gives you scholarships (this looks good too on the application), and then get the highest GPA and MCAT possible. And do the normal shadowing/volunteering/etc.

Now if it turns out that you become interested in research but you're at a small school without research, that's still ok, go do a summer research program at a big institution. Or, do research at a nearby institution.

+1

Debt level and happiness are the most important factors for choosing a college.

I agree with the previous posters. If you are dead-set on pre-med and sure you are going to go to medical school, then institution doesn't matter. Actually, it won't for most professional schools.

Though, if you are considering another career, or working after getting the degree, then the school you went to will get much more scrutiny from employers. That said, I'd still advocate following the money.
