Need an opinion!!! Please

I am a graduating senior and will apply to dental school this year.
I have been doing research for 1.5 years. I wanted to get my Ph.D in comparative neuroscience. But after working for 1.5 years, I don't think research is my direction. I hope you guys understand my feelings. I
Anyway, the problem is my PI does not know that i will choose dental as my career yet because on our interview i told him i choose ph.D
Here is the quote that he said after he accept me "I choose you because you chose ph.D, pre-med kids are here just for a letter of recommendation."Right now i am really scare about telling him to go to dental school. What should i tell him?
I lost sleep over this because he and i are pretty closed. I feel betraying him and lying to him but the truth here is i am not.


p.s. I ask Shunwei and he told me that be upfront and honest about it. But everytime i saw my PI, my heart keeps pounding and if i got nervous, i stutter.

Your PI will most likely be more understanding than you think. It is not uncommon for undergrads to change their major several times, before settling on one field. After spending 1.5 years on research, you would have a better idea now whether research is right for you or not.
