So, I am currently enrolled in a CC planning to transfer out to a 4 year UC very soon(I know, I have a long way to go!).. I already know 110% that dentistry is the career choice for me, but my only concern at this moment would have to be my major... Iv'e talked to numerous counsellors and have asked them which degree I should strive for and they keep telling me to just major in Bio. I was somewhat hoping for a degree in Business/Bio chem or something like that.

My question is, do dental schools really care what you major in as long as your completing all their pre reqs? Or is their school policy a lot more strict? Loma Linda is my option but I'm, just in general, trying to find out what dental schools prefer.

thanks..

there is no preference what your major is as long as you take a reasonable courseload of sciences per term and do well in them, along with strong DAT. One of the reason why advisors recommend bio as the major, is because when you take the prereqs and recommended courses for dental school, you are 2~3 terms away of obtaining the bio degree.
If the reason behind you wanting to double major is to show competency or that you can double major, I would advice not to. I've seen many friends that went to UC, chose hard major like biochem and or business, not do well and ending nowhere.
Chose a major that you can do well, you are interested and in which you can finish your prereqs by the time you obtain your degree, along without exceeding the unit limitation.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing, Might do a major that doesn't take so long according to my councellor
