Hello all,

I'm in a difficult situation at the moment. I need help deciding on which DO schools to apply for without an MCAT score. I'm scheduled to take the MCAT on June 17. I'm a Texas resident and will definitely be applying to TCOM in Ft. Worth. I'm an URM mixed race (Black and Hispanic). I just completed post-bacc work and finished with a 3.45 in difficult upper level courses🙁 My cumulative and science GPA are both 3.2 which is definitely on the low end but have both been trending upward. I will have over 100 hours of research experience and around 100 hours of volunteer work between hospital and underserved medical clinic. Any suggestions on out of state DO schools and schools in Texas? Should I even consider applying to MD schools within Texas? Thanks!

Come back when you have an MCAT score. DO wise include UIW. Texas MD schools really gravitate toward high GPA's and you're already behind the curve here. But of course being an URM will work in your favor. We really can't provide any cogent advice without an MCAT score.

Your MCAT wii be the kicker, a decent score will open up all sorts of DO and MD options as a URM

It's impossible to give recommendations without an MCAT score. Have you taken practice tests?

You're actually doing fine as a URM black candidate for DO. Get at 500+ on the MCAT and apply broadly, NOT just to one program in Texas. Be prepared to re-locate, if this is really what you want to pursue.

The average black DO matriculant in 2016 had a 3.2 sGPA and a 3.4 cGPA, and a 497 MCAT. (source: http://www.aacom.org/docs/default-s...riculant-profile-summary-report.pdf?sfvrsn=10) You're not in a bad spot right now.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks everyone for the input. Maybe someone could help me with one last question. I'm currently filling out my application for TMDSAS and its wanting me to provide a list of schools I plan on applying towards. Can I come back at a later point to add more schools plus my MCAT scores when they release? Or do I have to postpone the submission of my application until I have a confirmed list of schools and MCAT score? I want to submit my application by next week but only if I'm able to come back at a later date to add more schools.

You can make those kinds of changes after submission. See: TMDSAS - FAQ - Changing Your Application
