Hi guys, I just got my MCAT back today. Overall not as high as I would have liked (CARS got me bad) but I have decided to go ahead and proceed with DO application. This is my first time applying and I know DO schools do not have MARS like MD schools do so I am not sure where my stats would be the most competitive. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First-generation immigrants, parents did not attend college. English is my 2nd language.
MCAT: 509 (130/123/130/126)
cGPA: 3.69
sGPA: 3.71
EC: various volunteering experiences throughout the years, some research but no publication. Currently a hospitalist medical scribe.
One thing I lack is a LOR from a doctor, I have one but it is from a retired Ophthalmologist for working in his research lab for around 6 months.

Do DO schools have in-state preferences? I am from Oregon and would love to go to PNWU in Lebanon or Yakima.

WesternU does not have a strong in-state preference, unfortunately for us Oregonians. PWNU favors Washington residents and to a lesser extent, neighboring states. Additional information is found on their websites. Note, PNWU is in Yakima, WesternU is in Lebanon and Pomona and they are two separate schools.
I think you will be cut slack regarding your CARS score being that English is not your native language.
Work on getting a DO LOR, if possible.

Many DO schools require a physician LOR. It sounds like the opthalmogists letter is good for that.

Try and get some experience with DOs. Anything is better than zero!

Oh I have many hours scribing for both MD and DO, I just don't have time to request a letter from them.

Great - you've got some fodder for "Why DO?" secondary and interview questions. Assuming the rest of your ECs are solid, looks like you're ready to rock n' roll. Goodluck!

You should be OK. Do some research and remove any school that requires a DO LOR from your list.

Thank you for all of your inputs !! I am still waiting for my fee waiver application to be processed before submitting my primary, is it too late to submit primary at the end of October? Should I be pre-writing my secondaries before receiving them?

It is not too late, but certainly wait until the approval before submitting. I would encourage that you pre-write your secondaries. Good luck!

Anyone know how long does it take ACCOMAS on average to process fee waiver applications? It has been more than 2 weeks since I submitted mine, starting to feel anxious 🙁

I completed my FAP in June. It took 12 days to get approved.

I just did, they told me to wait till the end of the 10th business day, which is today. This really sucks since I can't even schedule CASPer test time without the FAP decision.

Finally got my FAP approval, here is my list so far, anyone has any other recommendations before I submit my primary? Thank you very much for the help from all of you!
AZCOM

Add VCOM, that's 4 schools you can apply to with one primary and one secondary.

I think they require DO LOR, which I do not have 🙁

It'll be hard to find a DO to shadow that is also willing to write you a LoR, but it'll show adcoms you went the extra mile and it'll make your app stand out even more.

I can, but I have maxed out the LOR lots in AACOMAS, I contacted them to have one removed to free up a slot for a potential DO letter but they told me that isn't happening.

You don't need to upload it to AACOMAS, many schools accept them directly. Alternatively, there is interfolio.

I see, I thought all letters have to go through ACCOMAS. I will try to get a DO letter but at this stage I am going in with the "no DO letter" mentality 🙂. Plus I cannot apply to more than 12-14 schools, the financial burden is too great.
