Does anyone know of any good study that shows without much doubt that taking antihypertensives will prevent strokes? I’m participating in journal club and need this. Surprisingly I havent been able to find one. This is a rather sophisticated audience for journal club so I rather not bring any papers that only quote CDC/AHA expert opinion or that use number games “like relative” risk or having narrow/arbitrary definitions of success (I.e “less days spent in the hospital” or “better motor function after stroke at day 30” or something soft like that). I’m hoping for a nice paper: randomized, placebo controlled, looking for differences in absolute risk, stroke versus no stroke, results that shows a compelling difference. Thanks!!

The problem is that everyone knows that we need to treat BP to reduce MACCE so the pattern of practice is such that most studies nowadays will not address this question per se. Studies which showed benefit of BP control to prevent stroke were done long ago like ASCOT BPLA...
