Hi guys , I'm a home schooled student and I really want to volunteer in the medicinal industry however I realise that I can't do that because I do not have any prior medicinal background.
Also , how do I go about stalking doctors , finding out how they work , get my letters of recommendations and even quite simply go about volunteering and helping out?
Please help!

Stalking doctors is illegal; you should shadow them instead. :prof:

Well, it depends on your area. You may be able to apply to the hospital for volunteering hours. You could ask your physician if you could shadow them.

Best of luck to you!

haha crap! I used the wrong word. Thank you so much for your reply!
The volunteering hours that the hospitals in my area mostly consist of entertaining the patients by means such as singing , story reading , teaching them a skill and the like.
Which is why I am so confused as of now as I do not know how to get involved in the medicinal industry.
How do I go about asking my physician if I could shadow them? Would it be alright to ask just any doctors?

Well, yes, you'd just ask.

It's still rewarding work if that's what you're interested in. Who knows? They may give you more intensive work later on.

Since you are home schooled, have you entered (or will soon enter) college? As for shadowing doctors, I recommend e-mailing doctors at teaching hospitals and say you are a student at XYZ interested in pursuing medicine. Doctors at teaching hospitals are used to interacting with students, so I found they were more receptive.

I will be entering a university ( we don't have colleges here and therefore don't do pre med. ) 2 years from now and I'm looking into getting recommendation letters and a good " resume " for when I sign up for my university next year in october.
I live in a very small country and so we do not have any teaching hospitals :/ As of now , we only have 4 public hospitals and a few other private hospitals.

It sounds like you don't like in the US, then. Your healthcare system may work differently; and you may also have a different system if you intend to become a doctor in your home country.

You'll have to look into that. ^^

Actually you do. National University Hospital is a teaching hospital and with > 1100 patient beds, is much larger than most hospitals elsewhere, including the US.

In addition, Wikipedia (which I realize is not always the most accurate source), lists many hospitals in your country: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hospitals_in_Singapore

At any rate, since we are US based website, its difficult to advise you on what you need to do to get into medical training in your country. However, if you are interested in medical school here in the US, we may be able to provide some guidance.
