I will have my application completed and submited the first week of June. I will have my transcripts sent over and verified as early as possible. HOWEVER, I am not taking the MCAT until July 6, which means my scores won't be out the first week of August and they won't be sent out to the schools for another week or two.

How soon should I expect my first secondaries and interviews?????

The timing is critical because I am active duty military and I may have new orders in the first week of November. If I get these orders then it may be very hard for me to promptly make interviews (I may be able to, but it is not guaranteed).

I know that schools vary in their timing of when they send secondaries and interviews, but if I apply broadly is it possible that I will receive a few interviews early enough????

Please help, I am very nervous!!!!

will your rec letters be all ready by august? You will be verified August 6th by AMCAS and secondaries will start to trickle in during august, and complete dates at individual schools late august to mid september. However, one thing you can do to save lots of time is do all your secondaries in july before the MCAT scores come in (question prompts are posted on sdn), so that you can submit the secondary the day you receive it come august.

As for when you would traditionally get interviews on this schedule, I would say really anytime September-December they could invite you...the higher your stats the earlier. In your position, I would note your situation on AMCAS add'l information. Also contact individual schools with your deployment information and see if they can possibly look at your file earlier than they otherwise would have to make an expedited decision. I'm sure some at least would be accomodating

I was complete for most schools around August, and I ended up scheduling three interviews in October, one early November, one in December, and two in January. Timeframe really varies from person to person.

You can e-mail schools and tell them what's going on in the hopes that they expedite the review of your application, but if you think you're going to be deployed it might be a better idea to wait and apply next year.

Are you deploying ISO OEF or going on ship? Either way, schools can and will work with you if they like you as an applicant. They can either squeeze in your interview prior to execution of orders or set up a VTC with you for your interview.

See this thread for more info: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=739234

Hope it works out for you.

I am getting my LORs right now (and it is only April) so I think that they will all be uploaded via Interfolio long before the application period.

dawgbone, great forum with great advice, thanks!! I hope my situation turns out just as good.

Also, has anybody else taken their MCATs in early July, or completed their application by mid August, who received early interviews??

I completed most of mine by late July/early August and started interviewing at the beginning of September. Some schools will ask about potential conflicts with your schedule and interview dates (Harvard when I was applying) so that they can work around people's schedules.

I'm sure you could call the schools or send an e-mail explaining your situation. Some schools are willing to do interviews ealier or via Skype... if you are overseas during the application cycle (had this happen with a few friends).

Good luck 🙂

Are you applying to USUHS?

Probably, but they require a 7 year commitment and you have to wear a uniform all 4 years. Shorts, flip flops, E-6 active duty pay with benefits, and a 4 year commitment all sound pretty appealing with the HSCP program where you get to go to a civilian school 😀.
