1. How many mL of capsaicin liquid (50 mg/mL) are needed to prepare 42.5 grams of a 0.15% cream?

2.

Rx

Phenergan syrup 60 mL
Guaifenison qs ad 200 mL

sig: ii tsp prn

How many mL of guaifenison is in each dose?

Step 1: 0.15 g/100 x 42.5 g = 0.06375g capsacin or 63.75mg (multiply by 1000 right?)

Step 2: 63.75 mg/ (50mg/ml) = needed is 1.275mg

This is for Probelm #2 :
Step 1: 200ml-60 ml = 140mL total
If to GIVE 2 tsp = give 2 x 5ml = 10ml (each dose)

Step 2: 140ml of guaif./200ml total x 100 = 70% of gauif.

Not done: they're asking EACH? so 70% of each ml is 10 x 0.7 = 7 mL

That's my answer!

I know the answer to #2 is 7.

The answer to #1 is 1.3 mL, but I don't know how to get it.

Olemiss - I just calculated it for you...see my earlier post above...round my answer 1.275ml =1.3mL

DONE!

Yeah, I just overlooked it. Been studying all day. I'm tired. Thank you. They're both pretty simple. I should've known how to do those.

hey can anyone here explain me how to tackle with this kind of problems

A patient presents with a prescription for a prednisone taper:
Prednisone 30 mg daily x 5 days then decrease by 5 mg every 3 days until taper ends
How many prednisone 5 mg tablets will be dispensed to fill this prescription?

A.30
B.70
C.100
D.75
E.66

30mg x 5 d = 150mg
25mg x 3 d = 75mg
20mg x 3 d = 60mg
15mg x 3 d = 45mg
10mg x 3 d = 30mg
5 mg x 3 d = 15 mg
total = 150mg + 75mg + 60mg + 45mg + 30mg + 15mg = 375mg
375mg divide by 5mg tabs = 75 tabs

Can you tell me how many days are we tapering off? one week? I'm working on it for you

The question says taper off by 5mg until it ends anyway thanks for looking into my question even after your'e done with NAPLEX

30mg x 5 d = 150mg
25mg x 3 d = 75mg
20mg x 3 d = 60mg
15mg x 3 d = 45mg
10mg x 3 d = 30mg
5 mg x 3 d = 15 mg
total = 150mg + 75mg + 60mg + 45mg + 30mg + 15mg = 375mg
375mg divide by 5mg tabs = 75 tabs

Thank you so much

I have this easy question from 120 calculations, my question is how would one understand that its a mass or volume when the specific gravity is given along with a weight/weight substance??

To be more specific here is the example question:
Dimethyl Sulfoxide Liquid is supplied as a 50% weight / weight solution with a specific gravity of
1.40. What is the percent weight / volume of liquid dimethyl sulfoxide?

I thought it was mass given (w/w) so i divided by specific gravity but when i saw the answers it was multiplied by specific gravity which means it is assumed to be the volume.

I hope i made my question clear..

Specific gravity is a ratio and is unitless.
Just know the following:

(w/w%) x (specific gravity) = (w/v%)
